Pamela left John’s ward without another word, and Robin closed the door behind her. When he returned to John’s bedside, he finally asked what had been on his mind.
“Sir, you agreed to Pamela’s request because you know they won’t actually listen to you, right?”
“Yes.” John answered lightly.
He needed to take care of Pamela, as he had promised, but he couldn’t force other people to cooperate.
In the past, he had said he would treat her differently and indulge her wishes, but after everything she had done, his patience had run out. What remained of his promise was only that he would make sure she was looked after as she lived.
Nothing more, nothing less.
“Are you really going to give her the money?” Robin asked.
“Yes.” John’s voice was calm.
As soon as Pamela walked out of the hospital, she called Sierra. It would take another week before John gave her the money.
She had to get Sierra to agree within that week. As long as Sierra agreed and helped her, she would still have a small chance of
survival after this.
Sierra and Holly were eating lunch when the number appeared on Sierra’s phone screen.
Sierra did not hesitate as she picked up the call.
“What did you want from me just now?” Pamela asked. “Have you thought it through?”
“I’ll do my best to have someone help you disappear,” Sierra said, using the wording Holly had given her. “In exchange, you tell me who that person is on the day you leave.”
“No.” Pamela refused at once.
Sierra blinked. “What?”
Pamela had already thought it through. “If I tell you then and you break your promise to hide me, then what?”
“Then we have nothing to talk about.” Sierra refused to let Pamela have her way. Once she gave in, only more demands would
follow. “The deal is off.”
“Wait!” Pamela blurted out, scared that Sierra would hang up.
Sierra set down her fork and waited for Pamela to continue, while Holly listened closely.
“I’m just trying to be reasonable here. What if you regret it after you find out who that person is?” Pamela sounded serious. “I don’t have anything on you. Even if you go back on your word, I can’t do anything about it.”
“You can also choose not to come to me,” Sierra said. She had no intention of letting Pamela have her way.
“Do you really not want to know who that person is?” Pamela swallowed her emotions.
“I do, but I don’t want to waste time arguing with you over it,” Sierra said. Her voice was calm and direct, striking at Pamela’s nerves. “If I’ve got the time and energy, I’d rather use it to fight John in court.”
Silence fell on the other end of the line.
Pamela knew very well that she and Sierra would never get along due to their conflicts with each other. First was what happened

at the university, then her relationship with John.
“Then promise me,” Pamela said at last, deciding to take the risk. “After you find out who she is, hide me somewhere so John can never find me. And if he does find me by accident, you also have to keep me safe.”
Sierra’s eyebrows furrowed a little.
She glanced at Holly, silently asking Holly if Pamela had finally lost her mind. How did Pamela get so bold as to think Sierra would protect her?
“Is that a deal or not?” Pamela asked.
