Chapter 455
“Of course,” Joey said to Holly with a wide grin. “Grandpa said since it’s her first time attending a party in Harbor City, we have to let everyone know she’s the treasure of the King family.”
Sierra said nothing; as she simply raised an eyebrow.
Joey looked behind her at the fleet of Maybach. “The ones behind us are from Nathan.”
Holly and Sierra turned to look. Only then did they realize that the Lynch family’s bodyguards and the King family’s bodyguards had lined up in two rows around their car at some point, sandwiching them in the middle.
“Now, this way, please.” Joey reached for the car door with a smile. “Grandpa’s waiting for you up ahead.”
The next second, his expression froze.
The car door wouldn’t open.
“Sir, please don’t steal my job.” Marcus got out right on time and opened the door for Sierra himself. “I’m Ms. Bell’s personal bodyguard. Opening the door is my job.”
Joey let go of the handle with one brow raised slightly.
Marcus raised a hand to shield the top of the door frame, his movements so formal they were almost gentlemanly. “Please.”
Sierra stayed silent.
Back when she was with John, this was nothing new. But with Joey and Marcus doing it at the same time, it felt a little strange. By the time she and Holly got out of the car, Nathan and Cyrus were already waiting at the front.
“Sierra’s going in with me tonight,” Cyrus said to Nathan in a low voice, but his eyes stayed fixed on Sierra. “I hope you know your place.”
“What exactly does that mean?” Nathan asked flatly.
Cyrus looked at him, his face stern. It was obvious he had opinions about Nathan.
Nathan was not intimidated by him and refused to back down. “Anyone can see she’s my daughter.”
Cyrus went straight for the sore spot. “Has she ever acknowledged you?”
Nathan fell silent, but after a brief pause, he fired back. “She hasn’t acknowledged you either.”
“At least when I called myself her grandfather in front of her, she didn’t deny it, and Anna didn’t say anything.” Cyrus pointed out the heart of the issue.
Nathan frowned slightly.
He thought of how both Anna and Sierra had rejected him.
“Grandpa, Sierra’s here,” Joey said as he walked over with Sierra and Holly, making the introductions. “This is her best friend, Holly.”
“Mr. King. Mr. Lynch.” Holly greeted them politely.
“No need to be so formal. I have just negotiated a partnership with your mother a couple of days ago.” Nathan’s tone was gentle, with none of his usual sternness in it. “She’s already here. Let’s go in together. There are a few more details I want to go over with her.”
Holly was stunned. She had no idea her mother had made a deal with someone this influential

When he saw she was not moving, Nathan asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. After you,” Holly replied.
“Please.” Nathan clearly meant for her to go first.
For the first time, Holly felt that even attending a party could come with so much pressure. Luckily, Sierra had been staying by her side, which helped a little.
As soon as the two of them walked ahead, Nathan and Cyrus walked after them.
Cyrus was still stuck on what Nathan had just said. “When did you start working with her mother?”
“Yesterday.” Nathan kept his voice low so only the two of them could hear.
