Chapter 458
“Sorry, I’m allergic to alcohol. I can’t drink.” Sierra turned Ian down without hesitation.
“Are you only allergic when it’s me offering you a drink, or are you allergic when everyone’s offering you a drink?” Ian asked gently.
Sierra blinked. Was he really that oblivious to her straightforward rejection?
“Looks like you’re only allergic to me.” Reading her expression, Ian set the glass aside and smiled. “I’m honored to be the only thing you’re allergic to, Ms. Bell.”
Sierra blinked even harder, while Holly was rendered completely speechless. That slightly deranged line left both of them at a loss for a moment.
“However, it seems that fate does intend for us to meet. If you can’t drink wine, you can still have a glass of fruit juice.” Ian picked up another glass and handed it to her. “Just think of it as us getting to know each other.”
After a moment’s thought, Sierra accepted it.
Ian was the Lewis family’s only heir. Outside of the four major families in Harbour City, he was still someone who had enough status. Unless she had to, she didn’t want to offend him. If she got her shares later, they might even end up working together.
“If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you, Ms. Bell?” Ian lightly clinked his glass against hers. “Are you married?”
“I am,” Sierra said.
Ian still didn’t realize how serious this was. “Which lucky man from which family got to marry someone as pretty and interesting as you?”
Sierra couldn’t be bothered to correct his odd wording. “John Henderson.”
Ian immediately choked, and he coughed several times. He stared at her, disbelief all over his face, his mind going blank.
“You… Who… Come again?”
“John Henderson from Henderson Group,” Sierra said, sounding perfectly calm.
Though everything between them would end after tonight.
John should have found out everything by now. If he didn’t contact her, she would go to the hospital tomorrow to find him.
“My apologies,” Ian said. He had never expected to run into something like this. He had been in the dating scene for years and had never made a mistake like this. “I didn’t know you were Mr. Henderson’s wife. Again, my apologies.”
Sierra set down the glass. “Can I leave now?”
“Of course! Please!” Ian said.
Darn it!
His friends hadn’t even thought of warning him! What happened to friendship?!
Sierra didn’t stay another second. She left with Holly, not taking the little skit too seriously.
But tonight, she was bound to be the center of attention. Whether it was thanks to the grand entrance Cyrus and Nathan had arranged for her, or the fact that she was Anna’s daughter, either was enough to make her draw attention.
Sure enough, they had just found Holly’s mother when people began coming over.
This time, they were no longer people their own age like Ian, but middle–aged men and women in their forties, fifties, and sixties. The looks they gave her were openly hostile, full of mockery and contempt.

“You’re Anna King’s daughter?”
“No,” Sierra said.
“No?” They clearly didn’t believe her. “Everyone in Harbor City knows Cyrus and Nathan gave you gifts. What’s the point of denying it?”
Sierra was unmoved by their looks and their hostility. “My mother’s last name is Bell, not King.”
