Chapter 485
Holly wasn’t the only one thinking that. Sierra was worried about it, too.
During the month–long waiting period, every night before bed, she feared some bad news would come the next day. But she was so exhausted during the day that those thoughts never lasted long before she fell asleep.
She wanted John to keep his promise this time more than anyone. At the same time, she also knew that his behavior was a psychological illness of some sort.
“My mom wants me to meet an important business partner tomorrow, so I probably won’t have time to go back to Jade City with you,” Holly said. “Want that scumbag Nicholas to go with you?”
Sierra refused. “It’s fine. Marcus can go with me.”
Holly approved of her choice. “Sure. Your little bodyguard is pretty reliable too.
“I know,” Sierra said as she glanced out the window. She couldn’t see Marcus from where she was, but she could imagine him at his station, as focused and meticulous as ever.
After a moment, Holly called out. “Sierra.”
“Yeah?” Sierra replied.
“I hope that everything will go smoothly for you tomorrow,” Holly said.
“Thanks,” Sierra said.
After they finished their chat, they hung up.
Looking at the date she had crossed out on the desk, Sierra went over it repeatedly before finally heading to the entertainment room. She still needed to tell Tommy that she and John were getting divorced
tomorrow.
She stayed and played with him for half an hour.
Just as she was thinking about how to bring it up without sounding too abrupt, Tommy raised his head from the puzzle he was working on and looked at her. “Mom, do you have something you want to tell me?
Sierra was a little surprised. “How did you know?”
“You looked at me more than twenty times in the past half hour.” Tommy’s voice was light and sweet. You won’t do it that often normally.”
Sierra suddenly felt Nicholas was right. Tommy really was a natural at solving mysteries.
“Are you getting divorced from Dad?” Tommy asked with that same calm face, as if he was talking about something completely ordinary.

Sierra paused.
He knew that too?
“If it were anything else, you would’ve just told me. You wouldn’t have hesitated like this.” Tommy looked a little pleased with himself when he saw how surprised Sierra was. “And Dad hasn’t come by for a whole month already.”
If it were anything other than divorce and just a simple fight, John would have still shown up shamelessly. If he hadn’t been here for a month, then this would have to be the reason.
“I’m going back to Jade City tomorrow to get the divorce certificate.” Sierra kept her eyes on Tommy as she spoke. She would have been lying if she said she wasn’t worried. “After this, he and I will have no connection whatsoever.”
Tommy wasn’t affected at all. “I see.”
Sierra bit her lip. “You can tell me whatever you’re thinking. Don’t keep it all bottled up.”
Tommy thought about it. After a while, he finally asked, “After you and Dad get divorced, can I still go see him and play with him?”
“Of course.” Sierra didn’t put too many limits on this. “Whatever my relationship with him, he’s still your dad.”
“Then it’s fine. You can go ahead and get divorced.” Tommy went back to his block puzzle.
Sierra blinked.
Tommy had always been much more mature than other children his age. Hearing that made her wonder whether he really was fine, or whether he was only acting that way so she wouldn’t worry.
“Whether you stay together or break up, you two will still love me just the same.”
Tommy understood it all clearly. He was so mature that sometimes people wondered if he was really just a child.
“I’m not losing anything.”
The one on the losing end was John; but since he had done something wrong, then he had to live with. the consequences.
Sierra reached out and hugged him, the tightness in her chest eased a little.
That night, just before falling asleep, she received a message from John.
[When you get to the airport tomorrow, send me a message. I’ll have Robin pick you up and take you to the Clerk’s Office.]
