Chapter 486
Sierra replied to John’s message. [Alright.]
John stared at that emotionless word on the screen, his eyes darkening little by little. He could almost picture the look on Sierra’s face when she typed it.
Robin stood beside him. “Sir.”
John did not look up. “Speak.”
“Ms. Bell will arrive in Jade City at eight–twenty tomorrow morning. She should reach the Clerk’s Office a little after nine.” Robin gave his report, then added, “You should go back and get some rest. You’ll look better when you see Ms. Bell.”
“Who told you to check?” John had promised Sierra that he wouldn’t openly or secretly investigate her or arrange protection around her.
“I did it on my own,” Robin answered.
John’s tone turned colder. “I don’t want this happening again.”
“Understood,” Robin nodded.
That was what Robin said, but he had no intention of stopping.
John had to keep his promise to Sierra and could not look into anything about her. But if Robin insisted on doing it himself, there wasn’t much John could do to stop him.
John put his phone down on the desk and went back to work.
“Aren’t you going back to rest?” Robin asked when he saw what John was doing.
Instead of answering, John asked, “Have you prepared the house I’ve asked you to?”
“Yes. It’s about ten minutes from the company by car.” Robin had always been dependable that way. “All your daily necessities have already been moved there.”
John paused, the pen still in his hand.
Robin noticed. Assuming John thought it was too far, he explained, “Anything closer is just a regular apartment complex. The buildings are too crowded, and there are too many people around.”
“Go back early. Remember to pick up Sierra tomorrow.” John did not say anything else.
“Alright,” Robin said. He had wanted to persuade John a little more, but after thinking it over, he gave up. Other than Sierra, no one could make John listen anyway.
Over the next few hours, John kept working late in the office. He didn’t go back to rest because he didn’t want to close his eyes and wake up only to face divorcing Sierra.

But around six in the morning, he collapsed from exhaustion and was taken to the hospital.
Eight twenty sharp in the morning. Sierra and Marcus exited the arrival gate at the airport on time and met up with Robin.
When Robin saw her, he greeted her with his usual politeness. “Ms. Bell.”
Sierra gave him a small nod. Then, she got into the car with Marcus.
About five minutes into the drive, Sierra asked, “Are we going straight to the Clerk’s Office, or are we picking up John first?”
Robin’s body tensed, and his grip on the steering wheel tightened without him realizing it.
Marcus, sitting in the front passenger seat, noticed right away. “Miss, he’s hiding something.”
Sierra looked a little confused.
“It’s not that I’m hiding something. Something happened to Mr. Henderson, and I’m not sure how to tell you,” Robin said at once, his feelings complicated.
Ever since Lance called that morning to say John was admitted to the hospital, Robin was afraid Sierra would get the wrong idea about the whole thing.
“I promise he isn’t trying to delay the divorce on purpose. He told me last night to pick you up this morning himself.” Robin kept explaining because he didn’t want Sierra to think badly of John. “He just didn’t expect something to happen after that.”
“What happened?” Sierra was calmer than he expected.
Robin froze for a second, then quickly answered, “He passed out from overwork. He’s still in the hospital, and he hasn’t woken up yet.”
Sierra only said, “To the hospital, then.”
“Alright.” Robin stepped on the gas.
He looked at Sierra in the mirror while stopped at the red light. She wasn’t mad, and she didn’t blame
anyone like he thought she would. Her expression looked pretty much the same as when she first got off the plane.
Increasingly, Robin understood why John could not let her go.
She really was that nice.
