Chapter 489
“Sorry for not being able to get the divorce certificate with you on time,” John said, his voice a little
hoarse.
He remembered what had happened that morning. Everything had suddenly gone dark, and his ears had started ringing. He had wanted to call Sierra and explain, but the moment he picked up his phone, his body gave out and he collapsed out of control. He had only just regained consciousness,
“It’s fine. We can do it later.” Sierra’s tone was calm.
John gave a quiet nod.
For a moment, there was only silence between them as neither of them spoke again.
Sierra stood there with her phone in hand, intentionally calm and cold. “I’ll go tell Dr. Smith and Robin that you’re awake.”
“Can you stay?” John caught her wrist, unable to stop himself in the end.
Sierra paused and turned toward him.
John looked at her, his hand still around her wrist, unwilling to let go. “Just for a little while.”
Sierra adjusted the emotions in her eyes. When she looked at him again, all that remained was aloofness. “I hope you’ll keep the promise you made to me in Harbor City.”
The words hit John like a knife in the chest. His grip loosened until his hand fell away.
Sierra turned and left the room without looking at him again. She then told Robin and Dr. Smith that John
was awake.
Everyone came in at once.
Dr. Smith asked John how he was feeling.
John answered every question as best he could, but his eyes kept moving past everyone else and settled on Sierra, who was standing at the side with an indifferent expression. It was as if she truly didn’t love him anymore. There wasn’t a trace of feeling left in her eyes.
“There’s nothing seriously wrong with your health. You just need more rest,” Dr. Smith told him.
John said nothing, his gaze calm.
Dr. Smith continued on with a few more reminders. “You also need to make sure you eat three meals a day…”
John called out. “Robin.”
Robin stepped forward at once. “Yes, sir.”

“Submit the discharge paperwork,” John said.
Dr. Smith froze.
So, everything he had just said meant nothing at all?
“Alright.” Robin knew that once John made up his mind, neither he nor Dr. Smith could change it. He also knew that now, Sierra would never persuade John to stay for the sake of his health.
“Mr. Henderson, your condition isn’t suitable for more overtime,” Dr. Smith said, forcing himself to continue. “If this keeps up, your body can’t handle the strain.”
John picked up the clothes beside him and started getting dressed, his expression calm. “I’m not working overtime.”
“Why are you in such a hurry to leave the hospital?” Dr. Smith pressed.
John buttoned his shirt and answered calmly, “To get divorced.”
Dr. Smith paused, then slowly turned to look at Sierra.
The room went silent. Everyone was tactful enough to keep their mouths shut.
After he was done with the last button, John grabbed his suit jacket and got out of bed. After a few hours of sleep, he looked fully alert again. He turned to Robin and said, “Get the car ready. We’re going to the Clerk’s Office.”
