Regrets Come Too Late (Sierra and Johnny) novel Chapter 49

Thunder was still rolling outside. Pamela had slowly gone into a deep sleep as her breathing steadied.

Sitting beside the bed on a chair, John couldn’t help but think of those past nights when every storm sent Sierra cowering under the blanket.

The blanket was warm, but it did little to block the thunderous rumbling. Still, she would always hide underneath one. Even when he held her in his arms and covered her ears, she still needed that blanket wrapped around her before she felt safe.

Thinking about this, he took out his phone and sent Tommy a message.

[How is your mom?]

Tommy was on a video call with Sierra and Holly at that moment.

Holly had not replied to any of Sierra’s messages since last night.

At first, Sierra thought Holly had worked through the night again and was sleeping during the day. That happened often enough that she did not worry.

But when a full day and night passed, it became hard not to worry about her.

Luckily, Holly picked up the video call. You called at the perfect time. My dad just gave me my phone back.

Sierra paused.

Gave it back to you?she asked.

He and my mom teamed up to trick me into coming out here. The moment I got off the plane, they took my passport and my phone,Holly grumbled, furious. I never thought the first thing they did after teaming up would be to get me.

Sierra fell silent for a second. She almost immediately realized this probably had something to do with John.

Holly changed the subject when she saw Tommy sitting next to Sierra. Right, let me tell you something.

Sierra followed along. What is it?

I saw someone at the airport who looked a bit like you,Holly said, sending over a photo as she spoke. Look. Doesn’t he look a little like you?

Sierra tapped the image open.

The man in the picture wore an expensive custom suit. He looked around his midforties to early fifties, with a handsome face.

From his clothes and the way he carries himself, there’s no way he’s just some ordinary man,Holly said, studying the photo herself.

Sierra nodded. There’s a little bit of a resemblance, but there are a lot of people who look alike in this world

True,Holly agreed and did not dig any deeper.

She had just seen something that reminded her of Sierra and shared it out of habit, just like the two of them always had

What Holly did not know was that the man she had photographed was the same person John had asked Kenneth to investigate.

By the time they finished chatting, it was already past ten. Since the next day was Saturday and Tommy had martial arts class, Holly did not keep them up.

After the call had ended, the thunder outside had mostly faded. Sierra went to bed together with Tommy, who came into her

room.

The next morning, Sierra got up early and made breakfast for Tommy.

After he finished, she walked him to where he practiced his martial arts he usually went to, then took a cab to the Lane residence.

Other than teaching, she wanted to quietly test whether this job was something the Lane family genuinely needed or whether it was a position that Solomon had deliberately tailored for her, just like what John had claimed.

She arrived a little after eight forty in the morning. Just as Solomon had said, apart from Eden and the house staff, the residence
