Regrets Come Too Late (Sierra and Johnny) novel Chapter 51

Chapter 51

If I told you everything I did back then had its reasons, would you believe me?

Lucas’s voice sounded as if it had aged several years in an instant as he spoke to Sierra.

If I didn’t do all that, all of you would have been dragged down with me.

Sierra’s expression was one of mockery. Do you really think I’d believe that?

It was no different from stabbing her once with a knife and then claiming it was for her own good.

Come see me. I’ll tell you everything.Lucas’s tone grew heavier. If you still blame me after you hear it all, I’ll go to your mother and personally beg for her forgiveness.

“Fine,Sierra said as she hung up.

She got a cab and headed straight for the address he had sent.

Her mind told her it was a lie, just like the excuses she had once made up for him in her own mind. Yet beneath all those thoughts, there was still a faint hope.

What if he really did have no choice?

Right now, Sierra had nothing. There was nothing left on her that he could cheat her out of. Even if he had called her out just to run the same con as before, it didn’t matter to Sierra.

But if he was telling the truth, then she and her mother owed him an apology.

Half an hour later, Sierra arrived at the bar he had mentioned and looked for the private room with the number he had sent.

When she reached the door, she pushed it open without the slightest hesitation.

The lighting inside was dim, but she still saw the middleaged man on the sofa at once. When he noticed her, he rose slowly to his feet, eyes full of mixed emotions as he called her name.

Sierra.

Sierra did not answer. She stood in the doorway and looked at him.

After these years, he no longer had the sharp confidence he once carried as the CEO of a company. There was a weariness in his features that had not been there before.

Why are you just standing there? Come sit.Lucas walked over and took her arm, trying to lead her toward the couch.

Sierra did not sit. Instead, she simply watched him.

Lucas’s eyes were full of complicated emotions as he scanned her over from head to toe.

He then asked in a hoarse voice, You’ve lost weight. You haven’t been eating properly, have you?

That’s not important,Sierra said as she shook his hand off. She didn’t let his shallow concern bother her anymore. You said you’d tell me the reason you took the money and ran, leaving me and Mom behind. Say it. I’m listening.

Can’t you talk properly to me for just a moment?Lucas’s words grew heavy. Seeing you like this really hurts me.

If it hurts, then tell me your socalled reason,Sierra said.

Her tone had not a trace of warmth. After everything that had happened and after John’s betrayal, Sierra didn’t believe much in this kind of talk anymore.

Lucas lowered his eyes, his whole posture seeming to slump in an instant.

Sierra stayed where she was, not moving an inch.

I didn’t want you to know any of this, but since you insist on an answer, I’ll tell you,Lucas said.
