Sierra’s voice was blunt as she said to Lucas, “If that’s your so–called reason, then you can come to the hospital with me right now and beg my mom for her apology.”

Lucas set his glass down and stood up slowly.

Sierra thought he was going to leave with her, but his entire expression changed in the next second. The remorse vanished, replaced by something vicious.

“Beg and apologize to her? Does she deserve that?” Lucas stepped toward her, finally showing his true colors. “Don’t forget! If I hadn’t left you and your mother in Jade City back then, you would never have had the chance to cross paths with someone like John Henderson.”

Hearing that, Sierra understood that he had never called her here to apologize for what had happened in the past.

“You should be grateful to me,” Lucas said as he got more and more worked up. “I’m the one who let you live the life of a rich man’s wife!”

“I wonder how Mom was ever blind enough to fall for you,” Sierra said icily before leaving.

Whatever familial love she had burned out in this moment.

“I dare you to say that again!” Lucas exploded as he grabbed Sierra’s arm and flung her down onto the couch. “Don’t forget who raised you!”

Sierra opened her mouth, ready to argue, but Lucas cut her off first. “I heard you and John divorced.”

Her brows furrowed.

Very few people knew about that. How did he find out about it?

“I’ll get straight to it.” Lucas dropped the act completely, with no trace of sorrow now. There was only greed. “I want what you got from your divorce. I won’t take all of it… Just seventy percent is enough.”

“Then you’ll be quite disappointed,” Sierra said as she stood up, her tone cold and mocking. “He didn’t give me a single cent.”

His face darkened. “I have limited patience. I have no time for games.”

“If you know that I’m divorced, then you should also know I was selling a ring,” Sierra said.

She suddenly realized that not getting a settlement was actually a good thing.

“If I had gotten any money out of the divorce, would I be selling a ring to get money for my Mom’s surgery?”

Lucas scanned Sierra’s expression, trying to catch signs of deception. However, everything she said had been sincere.

When he first heard she had sold a ring worth over a million for only tens of thousands at most, he had assumed John had given her so much money that the sale price of the ring didn’t matter to her. He had never imagined this was the real reason.

“He really didn’t give you anything?” he asked one last time.

“If you don’t believe me, you can go ask him,” Sierra said, no longer wanting to keep talking to him.

As soon as she finished saying that, she left.

It was also at that point that she had stopped seeing Lucas as her father.

Sometimes, she really couldn’t understand how a man who had always treated her kindly as a child could turn around and abandon her and her mother the moment something went wrong, all just to save himself.
