“Has anyone ever told you that you’re really not suitable for business negotiations?” Opal had not seen anyone this straightforward in a long time as she spoke to Sierra. “Your cousins are all sharp as knives. How honest are you? You know that honest people get bullied the most in this circle, right?”
“Maybe with others, but I’m sure I can be sincere with you.” Sierra had looked into Opal long before this. Otherwise, she would not have been so direct from the start.
Opal raised her eyebrow. “Really?”
“It’s true,” Sierra said decisively.
“Then I want one million dollars before I take this deal.” Opal rested her chin on one hand.
“Alright.” Sierra agreed at once.
Opal raised her eyes slightly. “Really?”
Sierra took out a file out of her bag and handed it over. “Words mean nothing without action. If you’re
worried, we can sign the contract right now.”
Opal took it and flipped through it. After making sure there were no problems, she picked up the pen next to her and signed her name in one motion. Then she pushed the contract back across the table to Sierra.
“Your turn.”
She wanted to see whether the King and Lynch families‘ little princess really was as simple as she
sounded.
Sierra took it and signed without a second of hesitation.
“It’s done.” She handed one copy back to Opal. “The money will be deposited into your company’s account by tomorrow.”
“This is the first time I’ve signed a contract before the food even arrived.” Opal kept the same casual tone and held out her hand to Sierra. “Working with you is so painless.”
Sierra answered politely, “I look forward to working with you.”
A faint smile appeared on Opal’s lips. “Likewise.”
Before long, the dishes came one after another. Watching Sierra eat so quietly, Opal suddenly wanted to reach over and pat her head. She even found herself thinking, why didn’t someone this interesting grow up in Harbor City?
“Sierra,” Opal said, looking at her.
Sierra looked up. “Hm?”
Opal was only making small talk. “I heard you divorced John?”

“Yeah.” There was nothing to hide.
“Why?” Opal asked.
Sierra stopped eating and she tossed the question back instead of answering. “Why aren’t you married?”
“What’s so great about marriage?” Opal asked.
“Same,” Sierra said.
“If you really think marriage is that pointless, why did you marry John in the first place?” Opal knew quite a bit about her. “I heard you even had a son together.”
“It’s exactly because I was already married once before that I think it’s pointless now.” Sierra had finally learned to say whatever fit the moment.
Seeing that Sierra did not want to talk, Opal did not press it. She knew Sierra was not going to give her a straight answer. But when someone this sincere brushed people off, she still looked so serious that anyone who did not know any better would probably believe every word.
The meal was simple, with no bragging and no flattery. It was the easiest business dinner either of them had ever had.
