“Then do it again in an even sweeter voice,” Opal said to Sierra as she playfully moved her phone, her newly finished manicure elegant and beautiful. “Say… Big Sis, I really like you. Can I sleep with you?”

Sierra fell silent before glancing at Tommy.

Tommy looked up at her adorably. “Do I still need to say that?”

The moment Sierra went back to the study, Tommy sent John a voice message. “Uncle John, if you don’t hurry up, I’m not just going to end up with twelve stepdads. I might also even get a mom, who’s also my big sis.”

John listened to the message while he was at the new house he had just bought, and he immediately sent back a question mark.

Tommy sent another message. “Someone just told Mom to call her Big Sis.”

John went silent.

John rubbed his phone between his fingers and said nothing. A long while later, he finally asked, “Did your mom say it?”

“I don’t know.” Tommy glanced at the study and purposely made it sound serious. “She took her phone back into the study, and her face was a little red when she left.”

“I see,” John replied.

Who Sierra was talking to and what they were saying had nothing to do with him.

She had already said he was not allowed to interfere in any part of her life. He was not allowed to have people protect her, openly or secretly. He was also not allowed to look into where she was going, or show up in front of her.

“Since you care so little about Mom, I won’t tell you anything anymore,” Tommy said.

John typed several words, paused, and then deleted them. He then changed the sentence to something

else.

[As long as you’re happy.]

The moment Tommy saw it, he closed the chat. To think that his dad still insisted he loved his mom. Who would love someone and did not even want to know how she was doing? What a liar!

Sierra knew nothing about the conversation between father and son. After going back to the study, she told Opal what she had just done honestly.

Opal had known from their first meeting that Sierra was a serious and upright person, so after hearing the explanation, she said bluntly, “It’s Loren’s men.”

Sierra thought back on it.

The last time she had gone to the King family home, Loren had spoken up for Charlie indirectly. Overall, he did not seem as openly hostile toward her as his mother had been.

To think he pulled something like this in the shadows…

Still, it wasn’t surprising. Loren had schemed with Charlie against her mother back then, so it was only natural that he would want to build her up just to watch her fall.

“Weren’t you afraid I was lying to you?” Opal asked.

“You wouldn’t.” Sierra sent that as a voice message. 1

“It is what it is, then.” Sierra shrugged.

Opal stared at the messages on her screen. She was smiling before she even realized it. Then she tapped out of the chat app and said nothing more.

That night, after Sierra finished reading every resume from the new company, she had a rough knowledge of each person’s skills and temperament.

As for Loren, after seeing that two full days had passed without the slightest stir online, he immediately called one of his men.

“George, about the material I told you to release. Did you send it?”

“I did,” George Clay said cautiously.

“If you did, then why haven’t I seen a single recommendation?” It was the first time Loren felt his people were this incompetent.
