Verdant Embers Whisper
Chapter 529
The more Opal acted that way, Loren got more and more sure his guess was right.
There were not many people Opal could not afford to cross. People from the King and the Lynch family would fall under the category that she did not want to offend, but to say that she could not afford to cross?
There was only one person who fit that category.
John Henderson.
A man no one could read, yet held power in many industries. He was Sierra’s ex husband.
Even though they were divorced, Sierra still had custody of their son. It made sense that he would not want Sierra in the public eye. After all, no man, especially not one with status and power, would want other people knowing he could not even get custody of his own son.
The more Loren thought about it, the more certain he became that it was John
“Got it.”
After saying those two words, Loren hung up.
If it was anyone else, he would have tried every possible way to make them stay out of this matter. But John was someone even Cyrus treated with caution. Going against him would result in his automatic loss without question.
With that thought in mind, he went home and told Charlie about it. Since it involved the shares, his father would not ignore it.
Sierra knew nothing about any of this. She spent the rest of the holiday learning everything she could about the company, including its current situation, past projects, and future plans.
The company only had one active project at the moment, and the profit was extremely low. It had already borrowed hundreds of thousands of dollars from the bank. Until it landed a new project, it would have to rely on loans just to pay salaries and buy equipment.
While she was sorting through all of that, Nicholas came by. Seeing how focused she was, he did not disturb her. He quietly walked in and waited at the side.
Half an hour later, Sierra felt a dull ache in her neck and gave it a rub. Only then did she notice Nicholas sitting on the nearby sofa.
She paused, surprise on her face. “When did you get here?”
“Not long,” Nicholas said as he stood up.
Sierra set her work aside. “Why didn’t you call me?”
Nicholas walked behind her and started kneading her shoulders. “I didn’t want to break your concentration.”
When someone was deep in thought, that was the worst time to interrupt them. At best, their train of thought would break. At worst, they might forget everything they had just come up with.
“You still have to take care of yourself even when you’re busy with work,” Nicholas said. He could feel how stiff her shoulders and neck were. “If this keeps up, you’re going to end up with neck and back related illness before the work is done.”
“I just haven’t been paying attention these past two days.” Sierra said, telling the truth.

Even if she did not work out every day, she still exercised at least once every two days before this. She knew perfectly well that one’s health was one’s most valuable treasure.
Nicholas massaged her shoulders delicately. “Does it hurt here?”
“A little,” Sierra said earnestly.
Nicholas shifted his hands and kept massaging. Feeling how skilled he was, Sierra sounded a little surprised. ” You’re actually pretty good at this.”
“Really?” Nicholas asked.
“Yeah.” Sierra nodded.
“That’s good, then,” Nicholas said. For the first time, he felt Holly had actually done something useful. If she had not kicked and hit him around back then and treated him like hired labor, he never would have gotten this good at
massages.
