Lucas sat in the private room seething, typing out more threats, only to realize halfway through that there was very little he could actually use against Sierra.
Her son? That was John’s son, too.
Anna? That woman was far too mysterious. If he really laid a hand on her, he couldn’t tell what the people who were backing her might do to him.
After Sierra had left, Kenneth walked back to the private room. He glanced inside from outside, then lowered his voice and spoke into his hacked phone.
“You said your wife was gentle, but what I saw just didn’t look very gentle.”
“Bring Lucas upstairs,” John said, his tone was calm, but the coldness in it was unmistakable.
Kenneth paused, then suddenly realized what that meant. “You’re here?”
In response, John stopped the hacking of Kenneth’s phone.
Kenneth almost cursed him. He was the CEO of Gomez Group, yet somehow he had been turned into John’s errand boy.
He kept cursing in his mind, but he still walked into the room.
When he appeared, the dark expression on Lucas’s face froze.
Before he could even say hello, Kenneth smiled and said, “Mr. Bell, someone upstairs would like to see you.”
Lucas followed Kenneth upstairs anxiously.
When the door opened, he saw John sitting on the couch, one leg crossed over the other. His black, unreadable eyes were looking straight at him.
John carried himself with an authority that was quite imposing, something he got from being born with influence.
A chill ran down Lucas’s spine as his instinctive fear of John immediately kicked in.
Kenneth walked in behind him. “He’s here, just like
you
asked.”
“M…Mr. Henderson…” Lucas swallowed.
He no longer wore the same arrogance as he did just now. The moment he was threatened by John replayed in his mind vividly.
“You want to rebuild your company?” John asked, his voice almost lazy.
Lucas didn’t understand why he asked the question, so he answered honestly. “Yes.”
“I have an opportunity. Do you want it?” John asked as he lifted a glass from the table. The expression on his face was completely calm.
A chill crawled up Lucas’s back as he rushed to explain, “I swear I’ll never bother that girl again! I just hadn’t seen her in a long time and wanted to talk to her! I swear I didn’t mean anything else!”
John lifted his brow. “Oh?”
Lucas was on the verge of losing his mind. The suffocating mood in the room made it impossible to guess what John was thinking.
“He’s just offering you a chance to rebuild your company. Why are you so nervous?” Kenneth’s relaxed tone made the atmosphere less tense.
Chapter 55
Lucas glanced at John’s emotionless face, uncertain. “Really?”

“Of course,” Kenneth said as he picked up a bottle of strong liquor and poured a glass. “Have you ever seen him make a joke?”
Lucas tried to think back. He had few chances to deal with John, but the man’s reputation in their circle was clear.
Ruthless, yes. But he also never went back on his word.
“I want it.” Lucas decided to take a gamble.
He had nothing left, anyway. If he could ally himself with John, it would be worth everything.
“I wonder what kind of opportunity Mr. Henderson has in mind.”
John’s gaze shifted to the row of bottles on the table.
Lucas understood at once. He hurried over, grabbed a bottle, and poured himself a glass.
“A toast to Mr. Henderson.”
