Chapter 566
After half an hour, Sierra sent Kenneth a message. [How much longer until you get here?]
Kenneth replied: [Two minutes.]
Sierra set her phone down and waited.
Thankfully, when Kenneth said two minutes, he meant it and he came up soon after. Sierra did not stay any longer and left after a quick nod.
Kenneth began to talk to John again. He looked at the man who had not said a word to make her stay.” Sometimes, I really can’t tell whether you have a high or low emotional intelligence. If you had just acted a little weaker, Sierra would not have taken one look and left.”
John picked up the tablet again and went back to work.
“I’m serious.” Kenneth pressed a hand over his. “Why don’t you try the wounded gazelle gambit?”
“Get out.” John had mostly recovered mentally by now. What remained was the damage this whole time had done to his body, and that still needed time to heal.
you,
“I know what you’re thinking, but things are different now. If you don’t use pity to make Sierra feel bad for
then you can forget about winning her back ever.” Kenneth was genuinely worried for him. “Do you really want to watch her marry someone else?”
John stayed firm, his mind perfectly clear. “She won’t marry someone else.”
Kenneth stared at him.
“You really are that confident?” He looked at John suspiciously. “You treated her pretty well during those five years of marriage, but during those two months before the divorce, you hurt her plenty too.”
Anyone in their right mind would not go back to that.
“The bigger issue is that she’s rich now. She’s also beautiful, and her father is the head of one of Harbor City’s four major families.” Kenneth kept going. “You may be great, but what if she decides if some younger guy in his early twenties is better?”
John’s eyes turned cold.
Kenneth shut up at once.
“No matter how good someone else is, she won’t marry him.” John knew Sierra well, which was why he sounded so certain. “At least not for the next few years.
”
Kenneth squinted his eyes at John. He really did not know where that confidence came from.
“Aren’t you a little too confident…”
“It’s not confidence. After everything she went through with me, she’s afraid.” John’s eyes grew darker

with every word. “Afraid that if she gets married and something goes wrong again, she won’t be able to get divorced.”
What happened during that time had made her get scared of marriage. That was never what he wanted but it was still the result he caused.
Kenneth froze.
A moment later, he tried to lighten the mood. “Maybe not. Feelings are the hardest thing to predict. When you’re emotional, it’s easy to forget the hurt once things start getting better.”
John tightened his lips, thoughts appearing in his mind.
“Let’s not talk about that.” Kenneth changed the subject. If they kept talking, it would only get worse. When I came up just now, I ran into Nicholas at the hospital. Did he come to see Sierra?”
John’s eyes were dark. “Yeah.”
Kenneth’s eyes shifted. “Do you want me to find out what’s going on?”
Before John could answer, Kenneth remembered the agreement John had made with Sierra and immediately changed his wording.
“No, that’s not right. Let me rephrase. I just happen to be heading out, and I might be going the same way as Nicholas. Do you need me to tell you what I happen to see and hear later?”
“That’s your business and it has nothing to do with me.” John’s expression did not change.
The worry Kenneth had inside had finally eased.
He understood very clearly that from this moment on, John had already loosened his stubbornness by
keeping promises. As time passed and more things happened, he might be able to free himself from his own chains.
