Regrets Come Too Late (Sierra and Johnny) novel Chapter 567

Then I’m off,Kenneth said after making sure John was doing alright. Call Robin or me if anything comes up.

John gave a quiet grunt.

Kenneth was gone in an instant.

By the time he got downstairs, Sierra had just gotten into Nicholas’s car.

Holly was sitting in the passenger seat. She turned and asked Sierra with worry, John didn’t do anything to you, did he?

Sierra shook her head. No.

Good.” Ever since Holly heard Sierra had gone to the hospital because of John, the worry inside had not gone away. I was afraid he would lose it again like earlier and give you a hard time.

If he tried anything, I would have just turned around and left.Sierra reminded herself to always keep a clear head. We’re not married anymore. He wouldn’t dare stop me by force.

If something like that happened between husband and wife, people might treat it as a domestic dispute. They might try to mediate it, and nothing would come of it.

But after a divorce, there was no relationship that kept them together anymore. Any improper behavior could become a crime.

How long are you planning to stay here?Nicholas asked.

Depends.” Sierra slipped her phone into her bag. If I need to keep working on the projects here, I’ll probably have to stay for about a month.”

Nicholas and Holly exchanged a look as the same thought crossed both their minds. This project was not something John had arranged on purpose to keep Sierra here, was it?

Sierra saw right through them. He wouldn’t meddle with my affairs. This has nothing to do with him.

They made casual chats for the rest of the ride, just like always. It was as if that confession had never happened.

They found a restaurant and had an early dinner.

Nicholas was the same as ever as he kept the mood lively. One moment he was talking about funny things that had happened that month, and the next he was bringing up the past. That confession had not changed the bond between the three of them at all.

Kenneth, who had come to eavesdrop, was in a miserable mood when he realized they were only talking about ordinary things. There was no way to report any of this to John in detail since it was just talking about their normal days.

Dinner ended not long after. Just as Sierra and the others were leaving the restaurant, a figure suddenly rushed out and blocked their path.

The woman was dressed casually, her face thin and worn, her eyes almost hollow.

If Sierra had not known her so well, she almost would not have recognized Pamela.

Sierra.” Pamela stared straight at her. The madness and malice in her eyes were gone, buried under dim hopelessness. Can I talk to you? Just for a moment.

I have nothing to say to you,Sierra said. She kept walking.

If Pamela had not chosen this path, Sierra would have admired her. Pamela came from a poor family, suffered abuse from her parents, and still got into Jade City University through sheer determination.

Sierra knew how hard that was for a girl from a small town in the countryside, so she had wanted to be friends with Pamela since the first time they met.

Part of it was that Pamela looked a little like Holly and seemed warm and approachable. The other part was that Sierra admired people like that.

Yet Pamela had chosen the worst possible path.

Please.Pamela no longer had any of her old arrogance. I don’t have any other friends! You’re the only one I have left!

Sierra ignored her plea. After telling Holly and Nicholas to go, she left with them.

The bad blood between them had existed for quite a long time ago. From the moment Pamela spread sexual rumors about her and joined others in bullying her, there was never going to be any good relationship between them again.

Sierra!

Sierra!

Pamela ran after her, calling her name.

Nicholas hit the gas and put a lot of distance between them.

Pamela ran a few steps before falling to the ground. Despair spread through her whole being and a deep helplessness rose from deep inside her.
