Chapter 569
Only when Sierra got to the hospital did she learn it was Pamela. The tightness in her chest finally eased.
Even so, there was a strange feeling inside of her.
“Your friend jumped into the river. Luckily, a passerby saw her and pulled her out.” As the doctor explained the situation, he handed Sierra several sheets of paper. “These are the charges. Please settle
them.”
“I’m not…” Sierra started.
The doctor cut her off. “Go on. She’s still not out of danger. I’ll go check on her.”
Sierra stood there for a long moment, staring at the payment slip in her hand without moving. After a while, she took out her phone and called Marcus. “Find Pamela’s parents‘ contact information. Send it to me when you have it.”
“Alright,” Marcus said at the other end.
Half an hour later, Pamela was wheeled back into her ward.
Sierra immediately explained the situation to the doctor and made it clear that she was not Pamela’s friend. But the treatment was already done, no one had paid the bill, and the hospital only brushed the issue aside instead of discussing it with her.
“You’re the emergency contact on her phone. How are you not friends? Don’t worry. Her condition is not that serious. She’s out of danger now and she’ll wake up soon. You can help us contact her family,” the doctor said.
After going back and forth several times, Sierra had no choice but to stay.
Looking at the woman on the hospital bed, suspicion crept into her mind. For a moment, she wondered whether Pamela had planned all of this just to make her come see her.
But after thinking it through, that did not seem likely. No one would gamble with her own life like that. If no one had saved her, she would have really died, wouldn’t she?
While Sierra was still thinking, Marcus had already sent Pamela’s parents‘ contact information to her phone. She tapped one of the numbers and called. It did not take long for someone to answer and a muddled middle–aged man’s voice came through.
“Who’s this?! Why are you calling in the middle of the night? Are you sick in the head or what?”
“Are you Pamela Sanders’s father?” Sierra asked.
“I would like to be that little wench’s father, but she doesn’t think much of me.” The voice on the other end stayed disrespectful. “What do you want with me? Is she getting married? Or did her real father finally acknowledge her?”
Sierra fell silent for a moment, then hung up.
If he could call his own daughter that, he would probably not be coming to the hospital.

She called the other number. She had barely greeted the woman and explained the situation before Lily started cursing.
“Stop your blabbering! Don’t think I’ll fall for one of her tricks. You tell her that even if she’s getting life in prison or the death penalty, she still has to get married first! If she wants to die, she can do it after the wedding!”
Sierra did not say another word as she hung up at once.
She knew Pamela came from a bad family back in university and that her parents treated her terribly, but she had not expected it to be this bad.
Just then, her phone lit up with a message from Holly, asking whether she had time tomorrow to go shopping and relax.
Sierra replied yes.
Holly: [Why are you still awake?]
Sierra: [I’m at the hospital.]
Holly: [???]
Holly: [Are you with John again?]
Holly immediately started complaining.
[Is he that much of a scheme? He won’t even let you rest at home in the middle of the night and he has to drag you to the hospital to sit with him too? Does he think he is some kind of king?]
[It’s not John.] Sierra had not expected things to turn out like this either. [It’s Pamela.]
She then told Holly what had happened that night through a voice mail. Since she had not found the right person to take over, she could not leave either.
Holly’s voice mail came too. “Why are you so stupid?”
Sierra blinked.
Holly sounded completely matter–of–factly as she said, “Call my deadbeat of a father. Pamela was never added to the family register, but she’s still his daughter by blood. Let him deal with it.”
