John turned his head slightly and glanced at Kenneth.

Kenneth froze.

He accidentally said his real thoughts out loud!

He changed his tone at once, worried that if he spoke one second slower, he would end up in a casket. What I’m trying to say is, the things you give are too special! Someone like me, who’s done nothing and can’t provide you with any help, isn’t worthy of them!

John then said slowly, Of course not. Just your status as the CEO of Gomez Group alone is worthy of ten of those gifts.

Kenneth tried to argue back, but he gave up the moment he met John’s calm eyes. I’m sorry.

Robin faked a cough.

What are you laughing at?Kenneth shifted the battlefield. I’ll have your boss send you a hundred sets!

Our boss knows what’s wrong and what’s not. He doesn’t let outside voices affect his decisions,Robin said, sounding completely serious. Does Mr. Gomez think our boss is someone who listens to mere slander?

You kissass,Kenneth gritted his teeth.

John’s gaze turned toward him. Don’t pick on my people.

Kenneth went silent again.

If it weren’t for the drama, he wouldn’t even want to sit in this car for a moment longer!

They drove on for a while, until Robin asked, Boss, Ms. Bell’s car is heading toward the martial arts center where the young master practices. Are you and Mr. Gomez going home? Or are you going to see him?

Why are you even asking? Of course we’re going to see little Tommy,Kenneth answered for John. I haven’t spent any with him since I came back.

Robin checked the rearview mirror. Seeing his boss’s expression remained unchanged, he followed the route Kenneth

mentioned.

Sierra was still in the cab and hadn’t arrived yet.

time

Sitting in the back seat, Sierra stared out the window as her mind went blank for a moment. For a second, it felt like she was a student going home during the semester break again.

Her phone buzzed twice. It was a message from Holly.

[There was one more thing I forgot to tell you yesterday.]

Sierra typed back. [About what?]

Holly then sent a voice message instead. That stingy, narcissistic, selfobsessed scumbag is back.

Sierra paused.

Nicholas Young?

She was still thinking about him when the cab pulled up in front of Tommy’s martial arts center.

She paid the fare and got out, her fingers moving over the screen as she continued the unfinished conversation with Holly. She had only typed half a sentence when a figure ran toward her. Before she could even see who it was, she was pulled straight

into a warm, strong chest with a faint scent.

LilSierra!

The man’s voice was bright and cheerful.

Sierra quickly pushed him away. When she finally saw the face in front of her, she froze.

The bright, handsome features, eyes that seemed to smile brightly, the perfect face, and that same short, messy, bedridden hair

from years ago

Nicholas?Sierra sounded genuinely surprised.

Holly had just mentioned him, and now he was standing right in front of her.

Nicholas took off his sunglasses, grinning. So? Surprised? Shocked? I spent a long time coming up with this!

I’m shocked. Shocked,Sierra said, and she meant every word of it.

Her terrible afternoon mood quietly eased.

Nicholas hooked his sunglasses on his shirt collar. I can’t see any of that from your face at all. Looks like I need an even cooler, more dramatic entrance next time so you’ll remember it for the rest of your life.

All these years and you still haven’t changed.Sierra was truly glad to see her childhood friend.

She, Holly, and Nicholas had grown up together. Later, she stayed in Jade City for college at her mother’s insistence, while Holly and Nicholas went overseas.

After she graduated, she married not long after that. In the second year of her marriage, Nicholas left the country again.

Lucas’s fingers tightened around the glass. His eyes drifted over to the bottles on the table. After considering all the outcomes in his mind, he gave a firm answer.

I’ll drink!

He had already crossed those men downstairs just now, thanks to Sierra. If he wanted their help again, the amount of liquor he would have to drink would probably be even worse than this.

All Lucas wanted was an opportunity, anyway. He might as well gamble on John.

As long as John was willing to help him, he would never have to worry about money again.

Once Lucas made up his mind, he started drinking one glass after another.

Kenneth watched the empty bottles line up and glanced sideways at the man beside him.

This was just too brutal!

Thump!

When the last bottle finally ran dry, Lucas was completely drunk. His steps wobbled, his words slurred, but he didn’t forget his goal.

I finished all of it.

John gave a quiet hum as a response.

Lucas was about to speak again when John suddenly stood up and headed for the door without so much as a glance in his

direction.

Lucas hurried forward to block John’s way. Mr. Henderson, you have not told me what the opportunity is yet!

I originally planned to help you rebuild your company.John’s dark eyes looked at Lucas coldly. But since you touched her, your opportunity’s gone with that.

Lucas’s thoughts were all jumbled up. It took several seconds before he finally understood it. When he did, rage boiled up as he pointed at John.

You played me!

John did not even look at him as he walked away nonchalantly.

Lucas snapped.

The humiliation from Sierra and the way he had been forced to drink himself half to death just now, all twisted together and exploded, pushing him to the breaking point. He grabbed a bottle and swung it at the back of John’s head with everything he

had.

So what if this man was John Henderson?

If he dared treat Lucas like this, he deserved to die!
