“You serious?” Kenneth asked John, keeping his voice low.
John headed toward the neighboring private room, leaving behind words cold enough to send chills down Kenneth’s spine. “Do I look like I’m joking?”
Kenneth grinned. “Fine, I’ll work on it now.”
He was more than willing to put some work into messing with Nicholas.
Just you wait, Nicholas!
Time to die!
Nicholas suddenly felt a chill down his spine. He rubbed the back of his neck and ignored it, continuing his chat with Sierra.
“You’re looking for work lately, right?”
“How did you know?” Sierra was a little surprised.
“Holly told me,” Nicholas admitted it openly.
There was understanding in Sierra’s eyes.
Of course.
As long as it wasn’t something absolutely private between her and Holly, she would tell Nicholas about most of it as gossip.
“I have a friend who’s hiring. Do you want to give it a try?” Nicholas wanted to help Sierra, and he had heard a few things from Holly. “The company only went public recently, but it’s decent.”
“It’s alright. I’ll search for one slowly on my own.” Sierra turned him down.
“Relax. You still have to go through the usual hiring process. I’m not shoving you in through the backdoor,” Nicholas said. “All I’m doing is giving you a chance. Whether you pass the interview or not depends on your skills.”
“I’m not turning you down because I’m being nice.” Sierra was not going to hide anything from him.
Nicholas blinked. “Then?”
“There’s something you probably don’t know.” Her mood lowered slightly. “John has already sent word to everyone in our social circle. If I really go to your friend’s company, I might hurt him instead.”
“I’m not afraid of him.” Nicholas was being honest with that. “Or you can come to my company. I’ll cover you. No matter what he’s planning to do, I’ll take him on.”
Sierra still refused.
She understood John’s methods too well. If he decided to move against Nicholas, Nicholas’s company failing would be the best outcome. The worst one would make him crippled in debt.
Holly being moved overseas overnight was already warning enough. She wasn’t going to let another friend get hurt because of
her.
“I’ll handle the job situation,” Sierra said. “You don’t need to worry.”
When he saw her expression, Nicholas knew no one could change Sierra’s mind once she had set her mind on it. He dropped the subject and decided to think of some other ways to help her once he got back.
As that thought had just passed through his mind, the door suddenly opened.

Several staff members walked in with arms full of decorations.
In less than a minute, the room had been transformed into a romantic proposal scene.
Nicholas was confused.
Sierra blinked.
Both of them were completely lost at what was going on.
Nicholas stared at the restaurant manager, still busy hanging things up. “What are you doing?”
“Just adding a little atmosphere for you and Ms. Bell,” the manager said with a straight face, even throwing him a knowing look. “Please enjoy your meal.”
As he finished speaking, the food Nicholas and Sierra ordered was brought in, and a server poured wine into their glasses. Nicholas wanted to talk about some personal matters with Sierra, so he waved the staff away and told them to mind their own
business.
“You planned this?” Sierra looked around at the strangely decorated room.
“Nope,” Nicholas denied it instantly. “I came straight to find you after I landed. If Holly didn’t say the food here was decent, I wouldn’t even have picked this place. The manager must be bored out of his mind…”
Out at the door, the restaurant manager fell silent.
The two floor managers beside him, one holding a bouquet of roses and the other a ring box, were also speechless.
“Do we still go in?”
“What if he throws us out?”
The two of them asked the restaurant manager.
The restaurant manager instinctively glanced toward the other private room, then made a decisive call. “Go.”
The most that would happen if they crossed Nicholas was getting snubbed. But if they offended their own boss and John, he probably wouldn’t survive that.
The two floor managers checked the timing. When it was almost time, each went in with their own things.
