Chapter 64

“Can you honestly say you have no feelings for Sierra beyond friendship?” Kenneth asked Nicholas.

“I can’t,” Nicholas replied.

Sierra went quiet. She knew exactly what he was about to say. She turned her head slightly and faked a small cough

Before John and Kenneth could figure out what that meant, Nicholas lifted his chin, sounding absurdly confident and proud.

“Besides being her friend, she’s also my master. I’ll bite whoever she tells me to, and I’ll show no mercy.”

Sierra instantly regretted storming over. She didn’t even need to think about it. This was clearly something Holly had taught Nicholas.

“Got addicted to being her dog?” Kenneth didn’t see that coming.

“Better than being some lapdog,” Nicholas said, surrounded by an air of playfulness and condescension. “Unlike a lapdog, being a guard dog is quite addictive.”

Kenneth’s temper flared again. “I dare you to say that one more time.”

No one was going to hold him back today. He was ready to beat this loud–mouthed scum to death!

“Come on, Lil‘ Sierra. Let’s go.” Nicholas was never the type to behave. After venting enough, he was ready to slip away. “From now on, we stay far away from the cheater and his lapdog. It’s bad for the brain.”

“Sure,” Sierra said as she stood up.

That one line from Nicholas had made her a little embarrassed, but she had to admit that she was feeling much better inside.

Nicholas’s ability to lift someone’s mood was still as good as ever.

“We’re just letting them walk out?” Kenneth watched them leave. The fury built up inside his chest had nowhere to go. “You’re not going to throw out some final one–liner?”

John said nothing. His dark eyes stayed on the duo as they left.

Judging by what had just happened, Sierra didn’t believe at all that Nicholas had any feelings for her beyond friendship. Even after everything Kenneth had said and Nicholas’s half–playful responses, her expression didn’t change in the slightest.

Normally, she would at least start to suspect something. Why was there no reaction this time?

“What’s with you?” Kenneth felt a chill from the air around him.

“Investigate Nicholas,” John said, his eyes darkened. “From childhood to the present day. Every detail. Don’t miss a thing.”

“Got it.” Kenneth agreed immediately.

John didn’t stay any longer.

Watching John’s unreadable expression, Kenneth tried to ask, “Do you think Sierra realized Nicholas likes her and will slowly walk away from him later?”

“No,” John said.

“Why not?” Kenneth frowned. “Isn’t it obvious he likes her?”

John was wondering the same thing.

Why did Sierra not sense Nicholas’s feelings for her at all?

John couldn’t figure it out either, so he didn’t dwell on it. As he left, he made a call and informed the person on the other end that Nicholas was back.

After leaving the private room, Sierra got into Nicholas’s car with him.

They chatted idly. On the surface, Sierra looked the same as before, but inside, she could not shake a thin thread of worry.

Nicholas had just returned, and John was already making moves.

Was it a warning? Or was it something else?

“Do you think that proposal setup was arranged by Kenneth? Or was it something from John?” Nicholas asked casually as he watched the road ahead.

Sierra answered with no hesitation. “John.”

“Is he sick in the head?” Nicholas mumbled in anger. “He managed to turn a perfectly good lunch into a mess.”
