Chapter 65
“He can paint as many targets on my back as he wants,” Nicholas said to Sierra.
He had never been afraid of anyone.
“You don’t need to worry about me. Just live your life like you always do.”
“Nicholas,” Sierra called him, feeling he was being stubborn again.
“You think I came back because I felt like it?” Nicholas spoke like he was reciting a tongue twister, one hand on the steering wheel. “I’m also carrying orders from the demoness Holly. If I really leave you be, she’d show up one day with a cleaver to chop me up into pieces.”
“I’ll explain it to her,” Sierra said seriously.
“Don’t worry about it,” Nicholas said as he kept his eyes on the road. “It’s settled. No matter what tricks John pulls, Holly and I will always stand on your side.”
Sierra wanted to argue again, but Nicholas cut her off. “If you say no, then you’re saying we’re not friends. If we’re not friends, then I’ll have no choice but to go beat up John to vent my anger.”
Sierra blinked.
She just couldn’t keep up with Nicholas. “If we’re not friends anymore, why would you beat him up?”
“Because he’s the one who indirectly made you stop being friends with us.” Nicholas sounded like a master debater. “So, I’ll
have to bill him for that.”
Considering what had been discussed, Sierra knew that he and Holly were in complete agreement regarding this issue.
Part of Sierra felt deeply moved that she had such friends, but another part of her still worried she would drag them into trouble.
“I know exactly what you’re worrying about. What John can do is either go after my company or send my dad to pressure me. Nicholas had already thought things through when he came back. “I have contingencies, so don’t worry.”
“Thank you. Both of you.” Sierra knew she couldn’t change his mind.
“If Holly hears you say that, she’s going to smack you again,” Nicholas said, glancing sideways at her.
Sierra’s expression had softened.
Since she couldn’t persuade Nicholas, she stopped trying. As long as she didn’t get too deeply involved with Nicholas, John probably wouldn’t overstep his boundaries.
About half an hour later, Nicholas dropped Sierra off at the entrance of her apartment complex.
He looked up at the building, his brows furrowed slightly. “You live here?”
“Yeah.” Sierra nodded.
“Why aren’t you staying at Holly’s place?” Nicholas asked. In his memory, Sierra had never lived in such a small unit. “She owns so many places.”
“This is fine.” Sierra didn’t explain too much and gave a reasonable answer. “It’s close to Tommy’s school, and it’s easier for me to do drop–offs and pick–ups.” 15
Nicholas opened his mouth and wanted to say something, but swallowed it all down.
“I’m heading up,” Sierra said as he pointed toward the floors above.
“Right.” Nicholas nodded.

He watched her walk into the apartment complex before taking out his phone to call Holly.
As expected, he was scolded before he could say anything.
Holly was very cranky when she was woken up after she had just gone to bed. “Are you out of your mind?! Why are you calling me at this hour?!”
“I called because I want to know more about Lil‘ Sierra’s situation,” Nicholas said, utterly unbothered.
Holly blinked. She groaned and said, “We’ll talk when I wake up.”
She hung up without waiting another second.
Nicholas was not surprised. He was just about to look for a place nearby to stay when his phone rang again.
Seeing the familiar number on the screen, the confident arrogance in his eyes changed slightly. After more than ten seconds, he finally swiped to answer, his tone clearly impatient.
“What is it?”
