"If you hadn't stood here changing the subject, Ms. Bell wouldn't be freezing," Marcus said after he heard John's words. His logic was one of a kind. "You made her stand in the cold, then acted concerned. That's like stabbing someone and asking if it hurts."
John froze.
Robin blinked.
That even surprised Sierra.
All three of them were baffled by what Marcus had to say about it.
Marcus was not finished. "What do you have to say to her after getting out of the car and in the cold? Can't you discuss it in the car? Can't you discuss it inside?"
"I'm learning something new," John said without arguing.
Sierra had gotten out of the car in a hurry. Since she did not welcome him, he had spoken to her outside. Thinking about it now, if he had used visiting Tommy as an excuse to go inside, she probably would not have refused.
"Ms. Bell," Marcus had promised John he would not oppose him, but it was something else when he saw a problem with the situation and called it out. "It's cold outside. Let's go in."
Sierra left without looking back.
John watched her go back into her home. Only after she disappeared from his sight did he get into the car and leave.
"Sir," Robin called out. He had already lost count of how many times he had found Marcus's thinking unusual. "Is he really in that place? Has no one ever beaten him up for talking like that?"
"Didn't the records say he ranked first in combat?" John said.
Robin immediately fell silent.
Fine.
Being good at fighting really was different.
"What he said was also true, however." John saw things clearly and took the lesson he needed from everything. "Most people wouldn't think that far."
"If we really followed what he said, wouldn't there be no sense of ceremony at all?" Robin asked. "Get out of the car, say nothing, and then separate. That really saves you time for nothing."
"Everyone wants different things." John understood that. "As her bodyguard, it's normal that he doesn't want Sierra exposed to the cold. I was the one who didn't consider that."
"Have I given you too little work lately?" John asked, his voice cold.
Robin did not have the courage to say more. He was worried that if he continued, he would be thrown straight out of the car.
John's good mood vanished because of those words.
He had originally been absolutely confident that Sierra wouldn't marry someone else.
Firstly, because what had happened with him had frightened her. Secondly, she wouldn't let Tommy live with a stepfather.
However, all of that was based on the old Sierra.
The current Sierra was very ambitious. She had even given up the dancing she used to practice every day for work and to gain more knowledge. If this continued, what Robin said might not be impossible once Tommy grew up and matured.
When that thought crossed his mind, he opened his chat with Sierra. Before he could type anything, another thought surfaced.
In the end, he turned off his phone screen.
