Regrets Come Too Late (Sierra and Johnny) novel Chapter 669

"That's because she pitied me and wanted to test John's skills in private." Nathan found himself an excuse. He was never going to admit to Cyrus that he couldn't cook.

Cyrus nodded. "It's fine to dupe an old man like me. But if you dupe yourself too, that's truly pitiful."

Nathan was not sure what to say. He really did not understand what John was made of. He had a successful career, handsome looks, and even knew how to cook.

Did he really have that much free time when he was growing up?

Anna was curious too. After John prepared two dishes in an orderly fashion, with only the final steaming step left, she asked, "When did you learn to cook?"

"Around sixteen or seventeen," John answered.

Anna was a little surprised.

John then explained, "I studied abroad and wasn't used to the food there, so I learned to cook for myself."

That answer only puzzled Anna more. With the Henderson family's wealth and influence, hiring him a chef who could make food from home should have been easy. Why did he need to do it himself?

The truth was that Danny was busy dealing with the Dickinson family at the time and had not paid much attention to John. Meanwhile, John's mind was full of finishing his studies and going back, so he could not be bothered with things like hiring a chef.

For the next hour, John and Anna worked in the kitchen.

The two helpers Sierra had hired to prepare the ingredients ended up with almost nothing to do.

Sierra, Marcus, and the others decorated the estate beautifully. New Year cheer filled every corner, but the place still looked fresh. In the past, Nathan and Cyrus had never paid much attention to these things, but the holiday felt especially grand this year.

In the blink of an eye, it was already six in the evening.

All the dishes were ready and served.

Looking at the feast that looked and smelled perfect, Nathan cast a doubtful glance at John with suspicion filling his eyes. Had John really prepared these dishes?

He had truly failed as a father.

"Come on, everyone. Let's have a drink together." Tony raised his glass, the smile on his face had not faded since the meal started. "During this festive season, we should eat well, drink well, and set all our worries aside!"

Everyone raised their glasses together.

Outside the window, fireworks streaked through the sky and blossomed in the dark night sky, lighting up the skies like flowers in full bloom.

Laughter continued around the table. Everyone was happy and harmonious, temporarily forgetting their relationships and everything that had happened between them.

"I wish everyone an even better year ahead!"

"Wishing my boss gets everything she wants next year!"

The laughter around the table grew little by little.
