Sierra's heart that had been tight for a few months finally loosened at that moment.
She listened to Tony telling his stories, Marcus giving his deadpan reactions, as well as the bickering between Nathan and Cyrus every now and then.
Time kept moving and the joy continued. Everyone enjoyed themselves for more than an hour.
Dinner did not fully end until after eight. Nathan, who had done nothing, volunteered to wash the dishes. He did not want Anna to think he had come just to eat and drink for free.
As for John, he sat on the sofa with everyone else after dinner.
While Cyrus was chatting with Tony and the others, John's phone suddenly rang. He took a glance. It was Danny.
"I'm going to take a call," John said to Sierra and Tommy, then walked outside with his phone
Sierra and Tommy looked at each other, but neither of them said anything.
Outside, in the garden…
Only after making sure no one was around did John answer beneath the night sky.
"What is it?"
"Why aren't you home yet?" Danny sat in a chair and looked at the table full of dishes in front of him, his tone cold and stern. "The food's getting cold."
John gave four words:
"I'm not coming back."
Danny's anger rose at once. "What are you doing instead of coming back during the New Years holidays? Everyone here is waiting for you!"
"What are they waiting for me for?" John's voice had a hint of mockery. "Am I the fork or the knife?"
"What could he be handling? If he isn't with Sierra, I'll eat my shoe!"
Danny grew more and more displeased. The more he thought about it, the more he realized Sierra had far too much influence over John.
John had thrown him into the water because of Sierra before. If they remarried, who knew what else John might do? Still, the assets John had given Sierra in the divorce had to be taken back. Remarriage could wait.
A woman who could make his son turn against him was not anyone simple. Forget about the benefits a marriage alliance with the King and Lynch families might bring the Henderson family, the Henderson family itself might already be destroyed by then!
"Solomon." Danny seemed to have made a decision.
Solomon looked up, his expression as gentle and indifferent as ever.
"I heard you've been getting along very well with that young actress you're keeping." When Danny said this, his gaze stayed on Solomon, not missing even the smallest change in his expression. "Are you planning to marry her?"
Solomon said calmly, "She's just someone to pass the time with. Marriage isn't on the table."
