Regrets Come Too Late (Sierra and Johnny) novel Chapter 678

At first, they chatted about the interesting things that were happening in their social circle. Slowly, the conversation shifted to ordinary family matters. Finally, to Anna.

This was the second time Cyrus had talked to her about her mother in her youth. Warmth softened his stern face. "You have no idea how remarkable your mother was back then..."

Cyrus told Sierra that Anna had been an outstanding student since childhood, a genius among geniuses. The only person who could match her was Nathan. He also said she was decisive, loyal to her friends, and devoted to her family.

As he kept talking, his feelings grew more mixed, and he told her most of what had happened back then. "Then, I found out she was dating Nathan..."

When Maxwell heard that, he got up and left. Some things were alright for him to hear, but his aunt's love life when she was young was not one of them.

After leaving Cyrus's private garden, he had just crossed the corridor when Peter called out to him. "Maxwell."

Maxwell answered calmly, "Uncle Peter."

"Where's your grandfather?" Peter asked casually.

"Chatting with Sierra in the garden." Maxwell looked over, his eyes unreadable. "Do you need to see him?"

Peter frowned and he rubbed his temples. "Sierra's here?"

"Yes," Maxwell said.

Peter's displeasure showed at once. "What is she doing here?"

"Visiting grandpa," Maxwell said.

Peter scoffed. As if anyone would believe that. Someone who had not contacted them in more than twenty years had suddenly formed a deep bond with Cyrus after only a few months... Who would believe that?

He did not go over and start a fight right away. Instead, he waited until lunch.

Soon, it was noon.

Cyrus brought Sierra to lunch.

Most of the family was there, including her two uncles, two aunts, and Loren. When they saw her, surprise flickered across their faces. Some of them stared at her for several seconds.

Time passed.

About ten minutes later, Peter saw that no one had any intention of going after Sierra. He grew impatient. "Dad."

Cyrus looked up at him.

Peter glanced at Sierra and got straight to the point. "You went to Anna's for dinner on New Year's Eve, and now Sierra is here to visit you today. Are you planning to leave Anna a share when you write your will?"

"What nonsense!" Charlie cut in.

Maxwell looked up, pressure in his gaze.

Peter cared little about order. "I didn't say anything wrong, did I? Aren't you worried Dad will give some of his things to Anna too?"

"Dad is still quite healthy. Why are you bringing this up?" Charlie's expression turned dark. "You can't even manage your own affairs, but you have the time to talk about all this nonsense here."
