Chapter 76
Sierra patted Tommy’s head as he huffed and puffed at her bleeding hand.
“It’s fine. It doesn’t hurt.”
“There’s no way a wound that big doesn’t hurt,” Nicholas said to her. “I still remember someone who used to burst into tears from just one little fall.”
Sierra didn’t know what to say.
John’s eyes grew darker as he watched the two being so comfortable with each other. The air around him seemed to grow colder.
Tommy felt it. He turned to John, asking, “Daddy, aren’t you going to blow Mommy’s hand?”
“You already did enough,” John said, his deep eyes fixed on Sierra for a few seconds before shifting to Tommy. “Come here. I want to ask you something.”
Tommy walked over despite being unsure.
They stopped after they had gone a short distance. Tommy looked up at John and asked, “What is it, Daddy?”
“Why did you call Nicholas here?” John asked, forcing his emotions down as he crouched in front of him. His warm hand rested on Tommy’s shoulder as he tried to keep his tone gentle.
Tommy pretended to be confused. “Huh?”
“Drop the act and answer,” John said, seeing right through him.
“You can’t protect Mommy, so I found another daddy to protect her,” Tommy replied seriously despite his soft, childish voice.” Nicholas is really nice. I don’t mind if he becomes my stepdad.”
John was stunned.
Even though he knew Tommy was doing it on purpose to get under his skin, he still felt quite irritated.
“I don’t care if you give up Mommy and go find someone else,” Tommy continued to anger him, “but you shouldn’t stop me from finding myself a stepdad.‘

“Is it fun to get on my nerves?” John pinched his chubby cheek.
Tommy was small, but his mind worked just fine. “You made Mommy upset first.”
John tried to argue. “When did I upset her?”
“Just now,” Tommy said, his childish voice crisp with absolute certainty. “Before she saw you, she still had a smile on her face. After she talked to you, she wasn’t happy anymore.”
John didn’t expect him to notice that much detail. “Is it my fault she isn’t happy?”
Tommy nodded. “Yes.”
“Are you even trying to be fair?” John poked him lightly on the forehead, but the love he had for the boy remained.
“Mommy is fairness,” Tommy said.
“You’re that biased?” John asked.
Tommy didn’t answer immediately. He blinked, then glanced sideways in Sierra’s direction. His gaze happened to meet hers, full of concern.
“It’s not biased,” he said, especially earnest with his childish voice. “It’s love.”

A flicker of confusion passed through John’s expression.
“If you can’t give Mommy a love that belongs only to her, then I will,” Tommy said, looking straight at him.
On his soft face was a seriousness he had never shown before.
“Mommy will be my one and only one in my life. She’s the person I care about and love the most.”
That simple sentence stunned John for a moment. He tried to say something, but couldn’t find any words to refute him.
“Daddy,” Tommy called out to John.
John, still a little distracted, answered, “Yes?”
“I’m going home with Mommy now.” Tommy leaned forward and hugged him, his body giving him all the warmth it could. “Go to bed soon.”
