Sierra froze and followed the manager’s line of sight.
John was sitting on the sofa by the window, holding a finance magazine in his hand lazily. As if sensing her gaze, he lifted his eyes and looked over.
“Mr. Henderson, do you still have Sierra’s contract?” the manager asked.
John’s eyes looked at him.
The manager became nervous by the way John was looking at him. He didn’t press further and turned back to Sierra instead Why do you need the contract?”
Sierra kept her tone vague in front of the manager. “I want to take another look at the details. If it hasn’t been stamped yet, I was hoping to add one condition.”
Before she finished, someone walked in.
The person held a contract in hand, walked up to John, and handed it over. “Mr. Henderson, the contract has already been stamped.”
“Give it to Sierra,” John said, his eyes landing on her and his voice unhurried. “It’s hers.”
The assistant from the legal team passed it to her as instructed. The moment the contract landed in her hands, it felt as heavy as a thousand pounds.
She was certain this was all deliberately arranged by John. She forced herself to calm down, and opened it. The company seal and the signature of Origin Games’s legal representative were already in place.
The contract was officially in effect.
If she quit, the penalty would be one million dollars.
“If you have any requests, just tell me,” the manager said, unaware of how she felt. “As long as they are reasonable, I can approve them. No need to put them in the contract.”
“It’s fine,” Sierra said. Her hands and feet were ice–cold, but she still forced a smile and nodded. “I’ll get back to work.”
She left right after she spoke without staying a second longer.
The manager watched her leave, doubt rising in his heart.
“Mr. Henderson…” he started.
John lifted his eyes. “Yes?”
The manager almost choked, and his courage vanished at once. He swallowed all the questions down and said, “It’s nothing
John didn’t say anything more. His eyes fell back to the magazine, but ten full minutes passed and still he hadn’t turned a single
page.
Some time later, the manager turned his attention to John and passed along an important message. “Mr. Snyder has arranged a dinner at the Grand Capital Hotel to welcome you. When do you think you can go?”
“To welcome me?” John repeated.
“Yes,” the manager answered.
“There’s more than one newcomer today,” John said.
“You mean you would like Sierra to come too?” the manager guessed quickly.

“Whether she goes or not is up to you. It has nothing to do with me,” John replied. He glanced at his watch, set the magazine down, and stood up. “I have something else to take care of.”
The manager didn’t try to stop John.
Later, he immediately reported the matter to upper management.
After all, Sierra was the one Mr. Snyder had told him to “find a way to keep her here.” If she turned out to be some friend or acquaintance of the chairman, he didn’t want to mishandle the situation.
He had worried for nothing, though.
