Chapter 86
Sierra was just a newcomer, after all. And with that penalty clause in place, she had no way to resign.
“What did the manager say to you?” Jenny walked over and asked, noticing the troubled look on Sierra’s face.
“He said I need to go to a welcoming dinner later,” Sierra replied, steadying herself so she would keep her bad mood to herself.” Said it’s to welcome new members.”
Jenny’s brows tightened slightly.
Sierra sensed something was off. “Is there a problem?”
“They probably want you to meet the company’s senior management. They might be planning to give you special training,” Jenny analyzed calmly. “Remember to toast each of them later.”
Sierra looked uneasy.
They were obviously making things hard for her.
“If I don’t go, will they make things hard for me?” she asked.
Maybe it was Jenny’s calm presence, or maybe she really did feel like an older sister, but Sierra found herself relaxing more around her than around most people.
Jenny met Sierra’s gaze and gave a firm answer. “Yes.”
Sierra’s mood worsened immediately.
“Don’t worry too much. They’re still people,” Jenny added, looking at her as if she were a younger sister and offering a little extra reassurance. “They won’t deliberately target you, and they won’t try to take advantage of you. The worst part is them talking a lot.”
Hearing that, Sierra knew there was no way to dodge this.
She sent a message to Nicholas in advance, asking him to help pick up Tommy. She then checked the time and headed to the
hotel for dinner.
Even with everything Jenny had said, Sierra stayed on her guard. Back when she used to accompany John to business dinners, she had occasionally seen some ugly business occurring in the next room.
She then sent Nicholas the address.
If nothing happened, then fine. But if something did go wrong, at least he would know where she was.
Just before getting out of the car, she suddenly remembered something important.
“Sir,” she said to the manager.
The manager turned to look at her. “What is it?”
Sierra thought for a moment and decided not to beat around the bush. “Will Mr. Henderson be there too?”
The manager lied without batting an eye. “No.”
Before coming over, he had received a message from Robin, John’s personal assistant. If Sierra asked whether John would attend, he had to say no and say it without raising suspicion.
He didn’t know the reason, but he followed instructions.
Sierra tried to read his expression, but the manager had been in the workplace for many years. He had long since refined the art of hiding his intentions.

The car pulled up at the hotel.
Before she could go inside, her phone rang.
It was Nicholas.
Sierra found a relatively quiet corner and answered. As soon as the call connected, his question came through. “They are taking you to the Grand Capital Hotel for dinner on your first day?”
Sierra answered honestly. “They said it’s to welcome new employees.”
Nicholas was growing suspicious.
