Chapter 93
Sierra couldn’t drink.
Two glasses of country wine at three to eight percent alcohol were enough to get her tipsy. Three or four would knock her out completely.
She had already drunk four small glasses of wine. If she drank any more, there was no telling what might happen.
“I’ve checked,” John said, handing her a full glass of cool water. His slender fingers holding the wineglass made them look strangely alluring. “Drink.”
Sierra took it and gulped it down in one breath.
Watching her, John’s eyes grew darker in silence. She drank without the slightest suspicion despite him leaving her sight. He didn’t know whether he was glad she trusted him that much or worried about how defenseless she was.
“All done.” Sierra set the glass down. She could no longer tell water from liquor since she was completely drunk.
John played along. “That’s right.”
“Can I go now?” She still hadn’t realized they were the only two people left in the room.
John naturally took her purse and steadied her swaying body. “I’ll take you home.”
She refused without thinking. “No.”
It was the most honest thought in her heart. She truly didn’t want to get involved with him anywhere she could avoid it.
“If you walk out like this, you’ll be in trouble in less than twenty minutes,” John said as he scooped her up in his arms so she rested against his chest. “If a car hits you, is it the driver’s fault or yours?”
Sierra’s mind went blank as he lifted her. Her head felt heavier and heavier, her eyelids drooped, and her limbs would not obey her as they were numbed by the alcohol. She tried to raise a hand to grab onto something, but after several attempts, she kept failing.
Seeing her like this, John regretted letting her have that fourth drink.
In the corner, Morgan watched everything. After a phone call had confirmed that Sierra was indeed the wife John was in the middle of divorcing, he stayed where he was and wisely didn’t step in.
Outside the hotel, John carried her toward his car. Before he could reach Robin at the curb, a figure rushed out of the shadows and came straight at him.
“Sierra!”
Nicholas appeared in front of him.
“Give her to me. I’ll take her home.” He locked eyes with John, his stance making his position very clear.
John’s gaze was cold. He gave Nicholas one glance and kept walking.
Nicholas tried to stop him.

After he texted Sierra, he turned the car around to see her. He had arrived just in time to see John carrying her out of the hotel drunk, clearly the result of John’s doing.
Robin and two bodyguards stepped in front of him. “Our boss will send Ms. Brooks home. No need to trouble yourself, Mr. Young.” 1

Nicholas ignored them and tried to force his way through to snatch Sierra from John’s arms, but Robin and the guards were not easy to get past. After several exchanges, he still couldn’t break through them.
“Getting cozy with Pamela on the side and still trying to make sure Sierra remembers you. You really are something, John. I’ve never seen a scum like you,” Nicholas said loudly.
John stopped walking and turned his head to look at him.
Nicholas met his eyes, obviously ready to stand his ground to the end.
“I know you like Sierra,” John said quietly. “I don’t know what excuse you used so she didn’t suspect your feelings, but I’m very sure you’re in love with her.”
