Chapter 94
Nicholas answered John’s question without hesitation. “Why won’t everyone be fond of a person as wonderful as Lil‘ Sierra?”
“I’m talking about the way a man loves a woman,” John slowly said.
“It’s too limited to describe our relationship like that.” Nicholas walked closer and stopped a step away, his gaze briefly dropping to Sierra’s face in John’s arms. “What I have with her and Holly goes beyond anything else in this world.”
John’s eyes stayed dark and unreadable.
Under normal circumstances, Nicholas would have simply admitted he liked Sierra, just to provoke him.
John threw out a sentence. “You’re awfully chatty for someone too scared to confess his feelings for her.”
“You’re the brave one,” Nicholas said, his tone edged with a sneer. “Brave enough to be with her and still find room in your heart to confess to other women.”
John’s expression darkened slightly, but he didn’t bother to refute something that did not happen in his view.
Nicholas’s face grew serious. “You know she can’t stand you. If she wakes up tomorrow and finds out you were the one who brought her home, she’ll only dislike you more.”
“It makes no difference,” John said.
He carried Sierra toward the car.
Nicholas could see he wasn’t going to change anything. There was no way to pry Sierra out of John’s arms with his bodyguards watching. He simply pulled open the passenger door, slid into the seat, yanked the seatbelt across him, and clicked it into place.
He clearly had no intention of getting out.
Robin glanced into the back seat. “Boss?”
“To Maple Residences,” John said, settling Sierra into a more comfortable position beside him, tone extremely mellow. “If he wants to ride along, let him. The car is big enough for one more hound.”
Nicholas fell silent.
No wonder Holly cursed John out so often. With a tongue like that, even Nicholas felt an urge to commit a crime and smack him right now.
As the car moved through the night, Nicholas kept checking the rearview mirror, making sure John didn’t lay a hand on Sierra. Only then did he relax slightly.
More than forty minutes later, they pulled up outside Maple Residences.
John had just lifted Sierra out of the car and was about to head upstairs when Nicholas stepped in front of him, a faint smile on his lips.
“You must have other things to do. I’ll take care of Lil‘ Sierra from here.”
John lifted his eyes.
Nicholas’s gaze dropped pointedly to John’s pocket. “Your phone seems to be ringing.”
Following a quiet signal from his boss, Robin took the phone out for him. When he saw the caller ID, he hesitated before saying,
“It’s Ms. Pamela.”
“Answer it,” John said, his voice dull.
Nicholas frowned as thoughts ran through his mind.

‘He’s going to take that call in front of me? Is he really not worried I’ll tell Pamela what he’s doing with Sierra?‘

Robin answered and held the phone to John’s ear with the volume turned low. Pamela’s tearful voice came through at once. John, why aren’t you home yet? Are you that busy at the company?”
“Sierra got drunk. Tommy’s home alone,” John said, telling her the truth.

“Then take care of her,” Pamela replied. She understood exactly what it meant for him to say that to her so plainly, and she did not dare throw a tantrum. “I can manage by myself.”
John’s voice lowered. “I’ll spend tomorrow with you.”
“Alright,” she said.
When the call ended, John carried Sierra toward the elevators, leaving Nicholas standing there utterly flabbergasted.
For the first time, Nicholas felt his mind go blank.
Under normal circumstances, wouldn’t Pamela make a scene right now? She could have cried, acted hurt, tried anything to drag John back.
How had everything ended with a single promise to spend the next day with her?
