Chapter 110
Raven POV
Something doesn’t feel right. Something is off. I’m sleeping soundly in Aeress’s room now that she and Jackson have practically moved in together, and my eyes begin to flutter open, every instinct inside of me screaming danger. Darkness. My eyes struggle to adjust, and just as I sense a presence, my head turning, a pillow clamps down on my face, pushing hard as I struggle, clawing at their arms, doing everything in my power to free myself and draw breath into my burning lungs. It looked as though my instincts had been right, but at the same time, knew this wasn’t Marissa. The person was too strong to ber her, and she wouldn’t risk getting caught. She was too much of a coward for that.
My throat is tightening. My chest is heaving. I grow more desperate as he climbs on me, kneeling over my body pushing, pushing hard, his strength overwhelming. My hands and my arms spread out, my hands blindly seeking anything to hit him with, anything that might force him to relax his grip on the pillow. There’s not much time left. My hands close around something smooth. The lamp base. I grip it tightly in my hand and then swing it at where I imagine his head might be. I hear a thud as it connects and he gives a low “oomph,” as I drop it, my hands scrabbling and grabbing the pillow and shoving it aside as I sit up panting, the man, whomever he was, clutching at his head. Good. I hoped it hurt.
I roll off the side of the bed. He backs off of it and then lunges at me. I can barely see, but I can sense his attack. I instinctively knee him in the groin as he howls. I punch him in the stomach, and he doubles over. I wasn’t about to let him off easily. I was pissed he would try to attack me in my sleep. That was cowardly.
“Who are you?” I snarled, “What do you want? Who put you up to this?”
I already had an inkling, but I wanted to make sure my suspicions were correct. He refused to answer, though, making me even more furious. I was tired, I was grumpy, and I was having to fight against an unknown intruder. It would be enough to piss anybody off.
“Wouldn’t you like to know,” he hissed.
“Tell me!” I growled, preparing to dodge another attack, my whole body tensed.
