Chapter 124
Raven POV
He marked me. I can’t believe it. I’m still reeling from it, my eyes slowly opening as bright sunlight pours through the open window. My body is sore, aching. Between my legs, I feel a slight sting, remnants of the events that transpired last night. I inhale and exhale, forcing myself to sit upright, my fingers tracing the mark on my neck with awe. His mark. His way of claiming his mate. It had happened in the moment, the very second, he’d cum inside me, and I grew concerned, wondering if it had all been a mistake, a reflex on his part, and something he was going to regret. Would he wake up and then instantly reject me, causing me so much pain that it might even prove to be fatal? I feel my body shaking with fear, even as part of me tries to convince myself that Hades would never do that to me, he would never hurt me. But there’s just the tiniest chance he could, and that notion fills me with dread.
He’s asleep. I can’t resist and gently touch his hair, smoothing it back from his face. He looks a lot cuter when he’s unconscious. I trail my fingers down his arms and listen to the sounds of his soft snores. He’s perfect. Better than any man I could have ever dreamed of. I feel my chest tighten, feel my heart skip a beat, the longer I continue to observe him. I’m afraid this is all a dream and that I’ll wake up to find I’m back to being the abused, pitiful Raven from before. The one who never stood up for herself and who was nothing more than a doormat. The woman I’m determined never to be again.
His eyes open. They’re slightly glazed. He blinks and then focuses on me. I hold my breath., His eyes immediately linger on the mark he gave me. I hold my breath, waiting, hoping. Finally, I can’t stand it anymore.
“Don’t tell me you made a mistake,” I breathe as he stares at me, “don’t tell me that this means nothing. I don’t think my heart could take it.”
The rejection would be too much for me to bear after last night, when I had given myself to him in body and soul. When I had fallen for him so hard that the thought of being without him would make my heart shatter into a thousand pieces.
Silence. Tears prick the corners of my eyes. I knew it. I knew he would never want the likes of me. Last night had simply been a way of satiating his urges, a way to give him relief from the aphrodisiac. It wouldn’t have mattered who he was with. I felt sick, moving to get off the bed, and his arm shot out, instantly halting me in my tracks. My body stiffens, enjoying his touch even as fear overwhelms me. It’s going to happen now. He’s going to reject me, and there’s nothing I can do about it. I bite my lip so hard that it almost bleeds.
“It’s not a mistake,” he said hoarsely as I stiffened, my head slowly turned to regard him in disbelief. “I could have done it a lot more romantically, but it’s not a mistake Raven. Far from it.”
