Chapter 125
“Never,” I breathed, causing his eyes to glint with satisfaction, “Initially, it was all about revenge, but now, I want you, Hades. I want to be with you.”
“Then the engagement is off,” he said simply, “I think I’m better off with the woman I’m in love with than the woman who drugged me and tried to force me to sleep with her last night, don’t you?” he asked with amusement in his eyes. “Not to mention that we have a mate bond in case you haven’t noticed, one that I’ve been denying all this time and now I don’t want to anymore.”
Tears well up. “You love me?” my voice breaks, “are you being serious…”
If this was some sort of joke, then it wasn’t funny. But the mate bond… I could feel it now, but it was weaker, perhaps because I was an anomaly, whereas in his case, he would feel it more strongly.
“I love you,” he repeated, “it’s taken me a long time to realize it, and I tried to push you away, but I can’t bring myself to do it anymore. Not after everything we’ve shared together. I’ve come to the realization I’m nothing like my father and I will never be like him. I don’t have to be afraid of caring for somebody. I can see a future with you, Raven, even if your reasons were less than innocent shall we say?”
A future. It was more than I could have ever hoped for. Something I hadn’t dared to hope for.
I blush. I can’t help it. He has every reason to be angry with me, and instead, he’s told me he loves me. I sob.
“I love you too,” I confessed, “have for a while but I thought you wouldn’t accept me because of what I am.”
“You being an anomaly doesn’t matter to me,” he said gruffly, “I wanted a mate that I didn’t have feelings for because of my past, and Marissa fit the bill. That’s the only reason I was so stubborn about marrying her. She would have given me an heir, and I wouldn’t have had to concern myself with her afterwards.”
Col,d but then, Hades wasn’t exactly soft natured.
A wide smile spreads across my face. I turn and wrap my arms around his neck, peering deeply into his eyes. I see nothing but love, and I feel as though I’m going to lose whatever composure I have left.
