Chapter 148
Raven POV
I sat down at the edge of the cliff face, my legs kicking back and forth in frustration, the wind caressing my naked body. I sigh, lifting my face up, feeling betrayed and more hurt beyond words. Hades didn’t want a child with me. I wasn’t even sure if he wanted to be married or if he felt obligated because we had marked each other. I was confused, unable to hide the emotions I was experiencing, my whole mind in turmoil. I felt as though everything was topsy-turvy and that my whole world had come down crashing all around me. I was lost. I was broken. I was so miserable that all I could think about was running away and going to my brother and father’s pack, if only to feel their arms around me and to hear them tell me everything was going to be okay. I was emotional and beyond rational.
Unlike Luna, who was trying to explain away Hades’ decision as though he hadn’t just broken both of our hearts
I’m sure that Hades had a reason, Luna whispered, although she, too, was badly hurt by our mate’s sudden declaration.
It was normal for shifters to want to procreate. We were big on family and having pups. It was considered a blessing to be so fertile, to be able to fall pregnant within days.
What good reason, Luna? If he didn’t want children he should have said something before we slept with one another. It’s a little late to be changing his mind, don’t you think? Or does he think I’ll just have an abortion if I do become pregnant? My voice is filled with anger.
I would never do that to my child. It was unfathomable. It was unthinkable. I would be a monster if I had an abortion. I would never be able to forgive myself. Hades might not want a child but it’s all I ever wanted in this lifetime. I wasn’t about to give up my dreams just because of him.
You need to ask him why he’s suddenly having second thoughts. I don’t think it has anything to do with getting cold feet. I think there’s much more at play here, Luna continued to protest,
She was clearly trying to defend Hades, perhaps fearing I might make a decision that I couldn’t come back from.
I understood the reluctance, but couldn’t bring myself to think the same way.
He made it clear, Luna. I don’t want to be mated to somebody who doesn’t want the same things I want. I want a mate and a family. I want what I’ve never been allowed to have before. I thought Hades was going to be a part of that, but now, I inwardly shrugged, now I’m not so sure of that anymore.
