Rejected, Abused, I Fall for the Forbidden Alpha (by Riley Scott) novel Chapter 149

Chapter 149

I stop struggling, breathing heavily. He wraps his arms around me and I feel my heart skip a beat. He puts his head on top of mine and sighs. Damn my body for reacting and betraying me.

“It’s not that I don’t want a child,” he confessed quietly, “it’s that I’m afraid of having one.”

I still, hearing the anguish in his voice and the fear.

There’s no denying the emotion in his voice. He sounds vulnerable, not the usual strong, confident/Hades that he exhibited.

Afraid? I feel myself relaxing. “Why?” I whispered, “You’ll make a great father one day, Hades. I know you will”

I’d seen the way he acted with the young children of the pack, how he knew their names, what they liked, how he communicated with them, and even joined them in the occasional game or two. There was nothing to indicate he would be a terrible father.

“I’m not so sure of that,” he said tightly, “I haven’t exactly had the best role models when it came to parenting. I’m afraid that I’ll…” he hesitated, “that I’ll be a complete failure of a father.”

Oh, God. Now I understand the reluctance. My eyes swim with unshed tears that I try to blink back. No wonder he’d been so abrupt with his decision. It wasn’t cold feet, it was fear. Fear from his past and his traumatic childhood. It all made a sickening sense now.

“You’re not your father,” I told him, turning around to face him, my arms moving to wrap around his neck, my lips inches from his. “You’re nothing like him Hades. You’re a good man.”

He would never be like his father. He wasn’t cold-hearted or cruel in my eyes. He was perfect. The more time we spent together, the softer and gentle he appeared to be.

“Aeress told me the same,” he murmured, “she made me see just how stupid I was being. I know you would never let me hurt our child, Raven. I know how much you want one of your own. I should never have blindsided you like that. It won’t happen again,” he said with determination, fixing his eyes on me, “I swear. I just want your forgiveness.”

The anger, the hurt, it just felt so trivial now. I felt foolish for jumping to conclusions and not letting him explain himself. He was exactly like Aeress, and I had failed to realize it.
