Chapter 154
Raven POV
“Alpha Drake’s dead.”
Words I never expected to hear came from my brother as he sat down on the couch and took hold of my hand, stroking it lightly as though I was some sort of fragile doll that needed protecting. I sat there in silence, looking thoughtful.
My father spoke quietly, “We think you might be safer back in our pack, instead of here.”
The protective father. I appreciated the gesture but knew that my mate would not go for it.
Naturally, Hades took offense. “Are you implying I can’t keep my own mate safe?” he growled.
I could feel the anger rolling off of him, his expression turning dark, even as he tried to control it, not wanting to upset the family members that had grown so important to me.
Alpha Daxton put up a hand, shaking his head at my fiancée, his eyes narrowed. “That’s not it, but at least there, we could keep a close eye on her, and she would have family around her. Family that cares and loves her,” he added warmly, “not to mention that she’s pregnant and you’re trying to prepare a wedding.”
“I appreciate the offer,” I told them both, beaming, “but I want to stay with Hades. I think between the two of us, we’ll be fine. Besides, I doubt MaryAnne would be stupid enough to come back and try anything. It’s more likely she and Marissa will try to flee instead.”
I was trying to be optimistic. Part of me should hate Marissa, but another part of me continued to feel slight remorse for my own actions, wondering if that was what finally tipped her over the edge and made her a psycho instead of just hateful.
It would be the smart thing for them to do, but then again, when had Marissa ever stopped letting her emotions rule her actions? I frowned, pushing that aside for now and refocused on the discussion around me.
“You can’t assume that,” my father warned and even Hades nodded agreeably, “considering what you put her through, not to mention Marissa, both of them probably have their eyes on revenge.”
