Chapter 159
“You know what, I’ll go with him. He’s bound to um,” Alpha Daxton coughed, “piss them off if he says the wrong thing.”
Wise words from somebody who knew his son all too well and was no doubt desperate to prevent him from doing any more damage.
He rushed off. Jackson and I looked at each other helplessly. “We really do need to get a grip,” I told him, raising a brow, “we’re acting like fools. It’s not good for our reputation,” I added, groaning out loud.
I was meant to be a big bad alpha, but now, thanks to Raven, I was like a giant teddy bear. She’d completely transformed me, but I wasn’t complaining. Pack members now found me more approachable and the atmosphere in my own pack was now becoming even more vibrant.
“Speak for yourself. This is the happiest day of my life,” Jackson said, glowering at me, “and I want it to go perfectly. Is that so wrong? Don’t tell me you don’t feel the same way. I’ve seen you looking at the pack house over and over, waiting for Raven to make an appearance. glared at him, unable to deny it. I had been looking towards the pack house, anticipating the moment Raven stepped outside, looking like the princess I knew she would be.
I felt the first stirrings of something wrong. A sinking feeling in my gut. A sense of silence, of a missing part of me. I glanced at Jackson, who was also frowning.
“Something’s wrong,” he suddenly announced in a panic, “I can’t reach Aeress. The mind-link is not working. Quick, try and get ahold of Raven,” he urged, his voice rising.
I tried to reach Raven and had the same result. Both of us looked at each other and went racing towards the packhouse. We stopped short as Alpha Daxton’s howl of anger reached the grounds, his voice almost filled with despair as it entered our minds and left us reeling in shock.
The worst had happened and confirmed our fears. We’d failed our mates, failed to protect them both, and now we were facing the consequences. Even with extra warriors in the packhouse, tightened security, and background checks, we’d somehow overlooked something or someone. We’d been careful but not careful enough.
