Rejected, Abused, I Fall for the Forbidden Alpha (by Riley Scott) novel Chapter 192

Chapter 192

Third Person POV

It was too easy, she thought uneasily as the hunters made their way through the forest, glancing around, their footsteps slow, holding bows in their hands as they surveyed the path in front of them. Some instinct made Marissa throw herself to the side as a large whirring sound was heard. She fell to the ground, gaping in shock as a large, thick tree branch swung in the air, taking several unsuspecting hunters out. She heard gurgling sounds as they lost the fight for their lives, and blood spattered the forest floor. A trap. She swallowed hard, getting back to her feet as Darius scowled, kicking the foot of the nearest hunter in disgust.

“Keep an eye out for more,” is all he said as the other hunters nodded nervously.

Marissa swallowed hard, aware of Darius’s eyes on her as he followed behind her, keeping her from being able to make a run for it or escape. Not that she could, thanks to the collar she was being forced to wear.

This time, she moved slowly, scanning the ground for more trip wires, others doing the same. Whereas they had been confident before, now they felt nothing but apprehension, seeing danger at every turn. Nobody had expected this pack to use traps to disarm them when none of the others had. It was ruining their plan. The hunters scowled, feeling pissed off and angry at the loss of some of their comrades, now even more determined to find justice and punish those responsible. The tension in the air was filled with rage, and Marissa shivered.

More whirring sounds. Marissa grabbed the nearest hunter, shoving him in front of her. His eyes widened as an arrow plunged into his chest, his eyes wide. Marissa used him as a shield as more arrows came flying from high in the trees. Shouts could be heard as hunters attempted to run while others foolishly tried to shoot, unable to see where the attackers were. Marissa breathed heavily, turning in circles, protecting herself from the flying arrows as they whirred all around her. Hunters dropped like flies, clutching at their chests, and others were hit in the back as they tried to run away. It seemed like a lifetime before it stopped. Marissa waited for another minute or two and then dropped the hunter, meeting Darius’s eyes.

She wasn’t sorry that she’d killed a hunter to survive. Right now, she would do anything if it meant keeping herself alive.

“Fuck,” Darius roared, looking down at the littered bodies, a fierce scowl on his face.
