Chapter 193
She stumbled forward, eyes blinking to adjust to the bright light, eyes sweeping the grounds. A sharp jolt to her collar had her doubling over in pain as Darius came behind her.
“A warning,” he breathed into her ear and then ripped the collar off as she breathed deeply for the first time, the burning sensation disappearing. “Now shift and start attacking, or I’ll put an arrow right into your chest without blinking,” he warned. “I own you. I doubt you want to feel the poison I’ve dipped my arrows in,” he added, and she felt her blood run cold. “It would be a slow and painful death. Now go,” he growled.
She shifted obediently, gritting her teeth, hating that she was still helpless but determined not to kill or severely injure any shifter. She wouldn’t be a part of this. She didn’t care how she had to fake it. Hopefully, Darius would be torn apart by another. Until then, she would have to go along with the pretense of helping them.
She saw Hade’s wolf attacking the hunters and fixed her mind on Raven, meeting her halfway across the grounds. The wolves began to circle one another, Marissa growling lowly in her throat but making no move to attack, surprising Raven, who held back, both of them eyeing one another.
Help me, Marissa silently pleaded with her eyes.
What is your purpose here, Marissa? Did you lead them to us? Why aren’t you attacking?
Raven’s voice entered her mind, and she almost gaped at her. Then she remembered. Both she and Raven had white wolves. Due to their abilities, mind-linking wasn’t out of bounds even if they weren’t members of the same pack.
Mother led them here. I’m just an innocent bystander. I don’t want to hurt any of you, but I have no choice. Darius, she subtly nodded at her mate, who was in the midst of the battle, is my mate. If I don’t help them, he’ll kill me. Raven, I’m so sorry, but if I don’t pretend to be fighting, he’ll shoot me with his bow.
