Chapter 216
Damien POV
The scream cut through the house. It was bloodcurdling and strangely familiar. I looked at Aaron, whose expression turned grim.
“That’s Alice,” he growled.
The sound of a growl filled the air, and I stiffened, unable to believe what I was hearing. Who on earth would be stupid enough to shift inside a pack house?
For a moment, I don’t move, thinking I might have imagined it.
Another scream.
“It’s coming from the kitchen,” Aaron breathed, and we ran, pushing aside pack members, desperate to get to Alice before we were too late.
Thoughts that a stray rogue, a hidden enemy, had attacked sped through my mind.
I never even entertained the idea that it might be somebody from my pack. Somebody I knew. It was unfathomable
to me.
That was a mistake.
I came to a skid in the doorway and stared for a moment, unable to comprehend what I was seeing. For a moment it felt like I had frozen, my eyes wide as I took in the scene.
A white wolf was attacking Alice, who was lying on the floor, her body pinned as the wolf’s lips pulled back and exposed her teeth.
There was only one white wolf in the pack.
Marissa.
What the fuck was she thinking? What had possessed her to shift like this and attack an innocent pack member of mine?
Was she jealous of Alice? Had she considered her a threat?
I wouldn’t stand for it.
“Marissa,” my voice thundered, rage showing on my face, “shift back now!”
She ignored me. I saw her jaws open wide, preparing to take a huge chunk out of Alice, who was squirming beneath her.
There was no other option.
“Shift back!” my alpha voice commanded.
Even though she wasn’t a pack member, Marissa would still be forced to submit due to the mate bond we shared.
The sound of bones cracking filled the air.
She changed. She fell back onto the floor, eyes wide, a horrifed expression on her face.
Alice scrambled backwards, tears shimmering in her eyes, holding her arm, which had flesh torn from it. I could

see bite marks and blood pouring out of the wound.
Marissa had done that.
I felt nothing but rage as I stared at the woman who was shaking on the floor, her hair hiding part of her face as she avoided tny eyes.
Aaron was behind me.
“What happened?” 1 demanded as Alice awkwardly got to her feet.
“She just attacked me out of nowhere,” Alice whimpered, pointing at Marissa whose face lifted up. “She said I was getting too close to you,” she blurted out, looking at me with pain on her face. “I don’t understand why she acted like this.”
“I didn’t…” Marissa started to protest.
“Shut it,” my voice was like a whip and she fell silent, her body sitting on the floor, her arms wrapped tightly around her waist.
“Get Alice to the hospital,” I ordered Aaron.
Aaron took Alice’s arm without a word and gently led her out of the kitchen.
I closed my eyes, breathing heavily.
Marissa’s eyes watered as she looked at me.
“I didn’t attack her,” her voice broke, “Damien, you have to believe me,” she cried.
My lips curled back in a twisted smile. I didn’t believe her innocent claims for a minute. Marissa was good at playing the victim.
“Don’t play the victim Marissa. You knew precisely what you were doing. You saw the way Alice was interacting with me earlier and got jealous. I can’t believe you attacked one of my best warriors out of pettiness,” I snarled.
She scrambled to her feet, reached out a trembling hand that I swatted away.
Hurt filled her eyes.
“Do you have any idea the damage you have done? The consequences for attacking an innocent pack member?” I hissed.
“I’m telling you I didn’t do it,” she yelled.
