Chapter 215
She laughed. The sound was chilling, and the hairs on the back of my neck began to stand up.
Crazy might have been putting it politely when it came to her.
This girl was unhinged. Deranged even.
Nothing I said was getting through to her. I wondered if Damien even knew how evil-natured this girl was or it he was oblivious.
“You’re funny,” she said flatly. “Naive as well. Do you have any idea how many girls like you I’ve dealt with? How many times I chased the girls off because they thought they could get near the man I love? The man who’s mine?”
“Too many. I’m not the same as those girls.”
I straightened my shoulders and wiped the last remnants of the blood still trickling from my lips with the back of my hand.
Nobody threatened me and thought they could get away with it.
I might be an omega. My mate might hate me right now. But one thing that I hadn’t lost was my pride, and I would be damned if I let this girl take it from me.
“No, you’re not,” Alice, I think her name was, said musingly, “it’s kind of refreshing in a way. Amusing,” she smiled, but it didn’t quite reach her lips. “I think it would be dangerous to allow you to remain in this pack house.”
“He’ll notice if I’m missing,” I said with confidence, “it would be foolish to try anything so soon.”
She tilted her head at me.
“You’re right, it would be. Damien isn’t stupid, and something like that would prove to be suspicious,” she readily agreed to my surprise.
“Then you should leave,” I said, my confidence growing. “I have chores to do.”
“Oh, I said it would be suspicious if I were to try anything,” she said as I frowned at her in confusion, “but if you were to do anything…” she trailed off, shrugging at me, “well, that would be a different story now, wouldn’t it.”
“I’m not stupid enough to do that,” I shot out, rolling my eyes.
“Oh, I won’t lie, you’re smarter than most of the girls I’ve challenged, but you’re not clever enough honey,” she said almost sympathetically.
What fucking game was she playing with me now? I was growing tired of this endless charade. I just wanted to be left in peace.
“Enough of these stupid games. I have work to do. You have…” I gestured at her with a scowl, “Other women to go and terrify.”
Her hand slowly crept into her pocket as I watched her suspiciously.
I half expected her to withdraw a weapon of some kind, a knife, a silver dagger, or a whip.
Instead, she held out her hand, and all I could see was some coloured dust.
I’d never seen it before.

It was a pale beige, but the colour almost shimmered beneath the lighting. It had no discernible scent.
“You think I’m afraid of some dust,” I snorted, “now you’re really growing desperate.”
“Not dust,” she corrected me softly, her smile growing, “Aconite Precipitate. Do you know what it does?” she asked sweetly.
I shook my head. I’d never heard of it before.
Her expression turned gleeful. I felt my stomach begin to sink. Something told me that this dust, this powder, nothing good. The name itself sounded scientific, most likely some form of compound.
“It’s quite fascinating, really. Expensive. Only available on the black market. Worth every penny,” she breathed” because it causes a shifter to change into wolf form and attack the nearest life form against their will.”
“You wouldn’t,” my voice shook.
“Oh, I would. It’s my last resort, but something about you just makes me feel threatened. The best thing?” she paused, “it leaves no trace. It dissolves into your skin and clothes. Undetectable. Convenient, wouldn’t you say?”
“Look, I don’t want trouble,” I stammered out.
She arched a brow.
“It’s too late for that. What do you think Damien is going to do when you attack me without provocation and try to kill me? Do you think you’ll be safe from him?”
