Chapter 221
“Damien, listen to yourself. How would I know there were no cameras when I only just got here?” I asked lowly.
“One of the omegas must have let it slip.”
“Is that what you think? Ask yourself something, Damien,” my voice rose as I grew angry at him, “do you honestly think I’m stupid enough to start something on my very first day here? What kind of moron would do that? “I scoffed.
God, he was naive and easy to manipulate.
How long had Alice been playing him for? How long had he been blind to her dirty tricks?
Too long from the sounds of it.
“What happens now?” I tried to hide my impatience. “Torture? I’m tired of trying to prove to you that I’m not capable of this. If my own mate doesn’t believe me, then there’s no chance of convincing anybody else.”
I see him hesitate. I see the flicker in his eyes. Then the mask settles back on his face again, and he glares at me.
“Torture would be too good for you,” he said coldly. “Not to mention, I would feel every ounce of pain even without marking you. No, you’ll stay down here with only enough water and food to keep you alive. One month of no one to talk to, cold, hungry, and thirsty should be enough to humble you.”
A month. It seemed like a lifetime. Torture would have been kinder. He sees the look on my face and gives me a
cold look.
“Do you hate me this much?” I whispered.
He remains silent, his eyes scanning me, his jaw clenched.
“I’m doing what I have to. The month will weaken you. You’ll be lucky if your wolf survives. If your wolf can’t live through this, then that’s on you. You’ll be given wolfsbane like clockwork every few hours.”
“You would kill my wolf?” my voice cracked.
“Without hesitation. I warned you, Marissa, not to go too far. You broke that promise already. I’m not rejecting you just yet, but that’s only because I want you to suffer more.”
“You’re cruel,” I whispered.
His eyes narrowed.
“If cruel is how you want to describe it, then yes, I’m cruel,” he shrugged, “but I’m also an Alpha doing my duty. I can’t afford to let my pack down, and I can’t afford to be softhearted when it comes to punishments. I’m barely holding back on torturing you as well,” he warned, “but if you cause trouble for the guards then I’ll go through any pain I have to to make sure you learn your place.”
A lone tear trails down my cheek as I fight not to break down.
I want to scream, I want to beg for mercy, but it’s pointless. There’s no mercy in him.
“If you care about Alice so much, maybe you should reject me and take her as your mate instead.”
I blurt the words out, filled with frustration.
“Don’t tempt me. You know as well as I that I could make her my chosen mate and still keep you as my fated mate

and mistress,” he taunted.
It would be the ultimate degradation.
“You wouldn’t,” my voice cracked with emotion.
“You have no idea what I’m capable of when it comes to protecting my pack.”
“I would rather die than let you do that to me.”
He smirked.
“You won’t have a choice. I won’t let you. Hopefully by the time the month is over, you’ll be much more obedient.”
“And if I’m not?” I spat out.
He barely even paused as his eyes narrowed and he stared at me, his eyes flashing with undisguised rage.
“Then you’ll spend even more time here. It’s your choice, Marissa. I would choose wisely if I were you. Your wolf won’t survive more than two months at most. Are you willing to put that on the line?”
I stared at the floor, my eyes shimmering with unshed tears.
Silence.
He turned on his heel, and I heard his footsteps fading into the distance, heard the sound of the door opening and closing behind him.
