Chapter 225
I stared at her. She was serious. She was going to kill me and there was not a shred of remorse in her voice or on her face.
She pulled something else out of her pocket. A syringe with a clear liquid.
“A sedative,” she giggled, “designed to knock you out. When the guards come back, they’ll find you hanging from that hook,” she pointed at the ceiling, “by your bedsheets having hanged yourself.”
“It won’t work. The hook won’t hold me,” I protested with dread.
“It will. They’re designed to hold prisoners restrained by their wrists for torture as they stand or hang. That wil more than take your weight,” she said evenly, already putting the key in the lock and twisting it.
I backed away. She entered, syringe in hand. I tried to lunge at her, and she kicked out, sending me sprawling to
the floor.
“You’re already weakened by the wolfsbane,” she said gleefully, kneeling and grabbing me by the hair.
She yanked my head back to look at her and slapped me hard. I fought back, scratching, clawing, but it was no use.
I felt the burning pain as she plunged the syringe into my leg without mercy. I gasped, feeling cold spread throughout my body.
I flinched. She smoothly put the syringe back in her pocket and stepped back., eyeing me with a small sparkle in
her eyes.
Any marks I’d left on her were healing already. There would be no signs of a struggle.
I watched dazed as she began to strip the sheets and blanket off the mattress, twisting and tying them together to
form a noose.
“No,” I gasped, trying to crawl to the open door, my fingers digging into the hard concrete, nails beginning to split.
She tsked at me and shook her head as though admonishing me.
“Now now, I’ll make it quick,” she soothed, grabbing at me as I tried to kick and flail in her arms.
That was of little comfort.
So weak. So tired. I could barely keep my eyes open. The sedative was strong and, combined with the wolfsbane lethal.
She pulled the noose around my neck as I felt my body beginning to fall to the ground. My limbs felt like they were paralyzed now. The sedative was in my bloodstream.
She picked me up as though I were light as a feather. Tied the sheets around the hook expertly.
Part of me wondered how many times she’d done this before. Considering the ease in which she did it, I was sure she’d done it a few times. How many innocent shifters had she killed because they were in the way?
The hook was high but it didn’t matter. She lifted me, my body slumped over like a rag doll. I guess she wasn’t one of the strongest warriors in the pack for nothing.
Still, she had to use dirty tricks to get rid of me so what did that say about her character? Who was the weak one here?

“Once you’re gone, he’ll make me his Luna. Somebody like you isn’t worthy of a man like him. You’re pathetic, weak, and useless,” she scorned as my eyes began to flutter closed, “you’ll only hold him back. I’m doing him a favor and making certain he doesn’t make a mistake. Our pack needs to be the strongest, and it needs a strong luna.
I wanted to laugh and tell her the last thing the pack needed was a fake, conniving Barbie bitch but the words wouldn’t come out of my mouth. Wouldn’t form no matter what I tried.
Damnit.
I couldn’t even scream for help. Not that anybody would hear me. Alice had made sure of that. Ensured there would be no witnesses. I had no doubt she had bribed the guards to keep them from tattling on her.
Before she let go and hung me, my eyes closed, and I took one last deep breath, trying to brace myself for what was inevitable.
Damien this is what your actions have led to. Now you won’t ever have to doubt me again. I hope you find happiness so long as it’s not with her. I wish you had believed me or given me a chance. It’s too late now.
Tears trickled down my cheeks.
She let go and darkness consumed me.
Death was coming, and I would have to welcome it, whether I wanted to or not.
Alice had won and I had lost a game I never dreamed I would be forced to play.
