Rejected, Abused, I Fall for the Forbidden Alpha (by Riley Scott) novel Chapter 229

Chapter 229

“Maybe they don’t believe me, but that’s no excuse to turn back to who I was. I won’t hurt another innocent person, MaryAnne,” I deliberately used her name, “no matter how much you try to manipulate me this time. You mean nothing to me anymore,” I snarled, “and my life is far better off without you.”

She tilted her head, her eyes gleaming.

“Is it? Because where I’m standing, you’re dangerously close to death. As for me being gone, are you so certain of it?” she said conversationally, and my blood ran cold.

“You died. I saw you die,” I whispered shakily.

“You saw somebody die. Somebody who looked like me. Somebody who acted like me. But can you be one hundred/ percent sure it was me?”

“Impossible. I would know….” I said angrily.

“Did you really think once you freed me, I wouldn’t have some sort of backup plan? That I wouldn’t try to get my wolf back? Did you keep eyes on me one hundred percent of the time? Or can you remember that little side trek we took before kidnapping Raven?”

“Unless you can perform miracles, it was you!” I screamed out wildly.

She smirked.

“Do you know how easy it is to create a doppelganger? All I needed was a potion which I had well hidden thanks to a witch who created it for me long ago, and voila,” she laughed, “you were all fooled. I needed time to get my wolf back, and the coven I had to travel to was more than a week’s worth of travel. The doppelganger had all my memories, all my behaviours. It was essentially a clone of me. That’s who died, Marissa,” she chirped, “and now I’m coming back to finish what I started. You betrayed me,” she said viciously, “and I don’t take betrayal lightly.”

“This is just a dream,” I muttered in disbelief, “it has to be. You’re not invincible. You couldn’t have anticipated what went down. You’re just trying to scare me, and it’s not working. This is all just lies,” I shouted.

Because the thought that my mother was coming back was too frightening to bear.

“My pack is gone, but Raven’s and the shadow pack are still standing. Lintend to remedy that,” she said lightly, ” and as for you, well, that will be interesting in itself.”

“You’re dead. I have nothing to fear from you.”

“Think about it, Marissa. Didn’t you notice the slightest difference in my behavior before I was killed? Doppelgangers aren’t perfect. Surely you noticed the slight change in my posture, the reactions that were far more aggressive than normal? The calmness I exhibited is gone? I didn’t trust you not to change your mind when it came to killing Raven, and I sure as hell didn’t want to put myself in harm’s way. Darius was meant to tame you, to teach you how to be loyal and you got him killed. You’re a disappointment to me,” she said with disdain.

“Why would you tell me all this? It’s putting your plans in jeopardy,” I said uncertainly, “and you’ve never been one to tell your secrets. That’s how I know it’s not true.”

“It’s more fun when you’re constantly looking over your shoulder. I what you to fear what’s coming. That is,” she exhaled, a look of glee on her face, “if you survive this. It took a lot of magic for me to get here, but why waste an opportunity to get inside your head?”

“Fuck you,” I whispered, “go to hell.”

“Are you scared now? I have eyes and ears in the Shadow Pack, Marissa. I know exactly where you are and what you’re doing. The irony is that if you tell anyone, no one will believe you. They’ll think it’s just a lingering effect of the coma you’re in. You can’t prepare for it, because everyone will think you’re insane. So rest up, sweetheart,” she mocked, “and try to stay alive. I would hate for you to miss out on what’s coming. I want to see the look in your eyes when I kill your mate right in front of you.”

“I won’t let you,” I roared.

“You won’t have a choice. Better think about getting out of this coma before it’s too late. Then again, if you die, that’s one last threat I need to worry about.”

She vanished, her laughter filling the air, and I stood there feeling frozen.

Doppelgangers? Magic? A mother who had been gone for months now? This had to be some sort of nightmare. I

couldn’t be real.

But why did I feel an inkling that even as remarkable as all this seemed, there had been an element of truth to it?
