Rejected, Abused, I Fall for the Forbidden Alpha (by Riley Scott) novel Chapter 239

Chapter 239

She’d gone running because of me, and God, how that hurt. To think she would rather be out here, without help. all alone, than remain at the pack house one more minute.

I took a moment to breathe as Marissa’s wolf stood there, her body completely still

Did she think I was going to hurt her?

Something came over me then. It was like everything faded away, and all there was was her. The trees, the ground, the air, all faded away.

I shifted, unable to hold back anymore. I was practically vibrating with the anger coursing through my body. Anger mixed in with dread and concern. I let my fear take over me as she shifted and eyed me, looking as though she wanted to make a run for it rather than face me and my wrath.

I exploded. I’m not proud of it. But god, she had no idea how worried I’d been, how upset I’d been as I realized she was gone and how much of a head start she had on me.

“What the fuck were you thinking?” I roared, and she flinched. “Do you know how close you came to being raped and killed! If I hadn’t come along, you’d be begging those bastards for mercy right now and treated like a play toy! Did you consider the danger, Marissa?”

She looked pale. Her body was trembling. I glared at her, breathing heavily. For a moment, there was nothing but a heavy silence between us.

“I had no choice,” she spat out suddenly, moving closer, her eyes blazing with her own anger. “You think I just did this out of spite! Maybe I did, but I also almost died because of you! Because you believed that bitch,” she hissed, ” instead of me. I wasn’t going to hang around and wait for her to finally succeed.”

I closed my eyes, hearing the venom in her tone and accepting that her anger towards me was well deserved.

I had been a fool. I had let Alice poison me against my mate and let her manipulate me into doing her bidding.

But I was here now, and I was ready to apologize to the woman whose heart was clearly broken.

“You rejected me,” I snarled.

She slid her eyes away from me.

“You didn’t want me anyway,” she gave a bitter laugh, “you proved that. I was only doing what you wanted!” she suddenly screamed in frustration.

“Maybe I did, but not anymore,” I growled, standing so close to her now that I could see the brightness of her blue eyes and the length of her eyelashes. “I want you, Marissa. Every part of you, from the tips of your toes to the top of your head. I made a mistake,” my voice was gruff, “and I’m willing to apologize for that. Alice played me,” I acknowledged as she stared up at me, “and I didn’t treat you as you deserved. Do you have any idea how scared I’ve been for you?” I demanded. “When I found out you’d made a run for it, I was going insane. When you rejected me, my heart felt like it was shattering into a million pieces.”

Her eyes widened in disbelief. Her lower lip quivered. Shit, she looked as though she was going to cry. I couldn’t bear to hear that.

“You let Alice lie to about me. I spent days in that dungeon, Damien,” she whispered brokenly, hugging herself tightly, “and you never came to check on me. Then she…” her voice cracked, “hung me from the ceiling and I almost died! Do you think a mere apology is going to be enough to get me to forgive you?”

“I know I was wrong. I know that what I did was unforgivable, but I’m begging you, Marissa, don’t give up on me just yet. Don’t give up on us just yet,” I emphasized, taking hold of her hands and squeezing them lightly.

“You can’t fix this, Damien,” she whispered, a lone tear trailing down her cheek, “you hurt me.”

Fuck. I needed to fix things, or I was going to lose her forever. I let go of her hands and ran a hand through my hair, thinking desperately of what to do.

I was in over my head here. This was going to take mure than a just a mere apology. I was going to have to show her how much she meant to me and in a way that showed genuine sincerity.

What I chose to do next shocked us both.
