Chapter 252
Damien POV
“I’m sorry,” Marissa’s voice is barely above a whisper as she bows her head, her body almost curling inwards as she stands there as though awaiting judgment.
I walk forward and tip her chin up, my eyes staring intently into hers.
“You have nothing to be sorry for,” I told her firmly as she flushed, those baby blue eyes of hers shimmering, this isn’t your fault, Marissa. Trust me, I don’t blame you.”
She was so beautiful. I should have seen it before. I stroked her cheek, and she sighed, her body instinctively moving to lean into me.
“We’ll manage this together,” I added, kissing her forehead as though it was natural.
She stiffened in shock but didn’t move away from me.
“But we’re not even proper mates,” Marissa whispered, her voice shaking, “and honestly, it’s not too late to…”
We hadn’t marked each other. I’d been so determined to hate her, to blame her for everything, that I’d kept well away from doing something that would ultimately change our relationship.
I regretted that now.
I nuzzled her neck, smelling that sweet and intoxicating scent of hers, and tightened my arms around her as she gave a shaky inhale.
“Damien,” she trembled, and I kissed the nape of her neck, pressing my lips tenderly to her skin and enjoying it.
“Let’s fix that then,” I murmured.
“But, you don’t want me, not really. What if you realize you’ve made a mistake and it’s too late to do anything?” Marissa’s breath hitched.
I gently pushed her hair back from her neck and then moved back to look into her eyes.
“I made a mistake when I failed to see the real you and see Alice’s true nature. I haven’t been the best mate to you, but I know what it is I want now, Marissa, and that’s you.”
A lone tear trickled down her cheek.
“I want you too, Damien,” her voice was thick, “but the pack members…Aaron, they won’t accept me.”
“They will Marissa because they’ll have no choice. Who I take as my mate is my decision not theirs. We’ll show them that you’re deserving of this, deserving of becoming Luna.”
I picked her up and cradled her against my chest, moving confidently across the room and lowering her to the bed, placing her gently down so that she sat with her legs over the edge.
I sat beside her and moved her hair again.
“Damien,” her body shook with anticipation and a hint of fear.
“Trust me,” I murmured as my canines began to grow and extend.
She closed her eyes, bracing herself.

I pressed another kiss to her neck and heard her give a soft moan, which instantly shot through to my groin.
“You’re so beautiful,” I whispered, pressing another kiss to her neck, “my perfect mate,” I finished.
I bit down as gently as possible, piercing her skin and then pulled back, licking the wound closed gently as her eyes slowly fluttered open.
Instinct took over, and she lunged at me, sinking her own teeth into my neck and then rearing back to lick the blood away and seal the wound.
I looked at her mark, a tattoo of two wolves staring at each other with a full moon behind them. I knew mine would be the same.
“You marked me,” Marissa said in disbelief, touching her neck softly and tracing the tattoo with her finger.
“I marked my mate,” I corrected, “even with everything that’s going on, I want you to have this. I want you to know how I truly feel about you because I haven’t been exactly forthcoming when it comes to that. The thought losing you, Marissa,” I shook my head as she stared at me wide-eyed, “it kills me inside. I don’t think I could survive if you died.”
