Rejected, Abused, I Fall for the Forbidden Alpha (by Riley Scott) novel Chapter 256

Chapter 256

Marissa POV

The annual party begins, and on the outside, it looks relatively normal. Pack members group, laughing and chatting, with alcohol in hand, a bonfire burning brightly on the grounds, and upbeat music playing in the background. Even the omegas join in the festivities, and food is set up on outside tables for people to help

themselves to.

It’s relaxing. The atmosphere is cheerful, and everybody looks relaxed as though there’s nothing to worry about

I know better. Damien knows better. Security has been tripled around the perimeter, and the party itself has been organized in the safest part of the grounds, relatively close to the packhouse, where the safe room could be quickly used by the most vulnerable.

I’m dressed in a formal gown, my feet encased in pretty sandals. I’m tense, my eyes automatically scanning my surroundings while Damien puts a comforting hand on my shoulder.

“Relax,” he murmurs, “we have this in hand. The moment she shows up, we’ll know. For now, try to enjoy the festivities.”

“How can I relax knowing she’s coming?” I turn to him with my eyes flashing, “knowing that she’s going to destroy everything you’ve built for her own selfish reasons?”

“I know it’s making you anxious, but…” he trails off and stiffens, his eyes glazed.

Something’s wrong. I can tell just by looking at him and how tense he is.

“What is it?” I whispered.

He turns to me, his eyes darkening as he cuts off the mind-link.

“Get the vulnerable members into the safe room,” he barked, “two of my guards are dead.”

I move. Damien is already yelling out orders, the festivities forgotten. I scream for the vulnerable, the elderly, the women, and the children to follow me and get into the safe room.

They come running without hesitation.

The safe room is already open and guarded by two warriors. I usher everybody into the pack house just as rogues come bounding onto the grounds.

I hear screams of panic. The rogues attack while Damien and the warriors shift into wolves, racing to cut them off before they can kill those still aiming for the pack house.

One little girl stumbles and falls to the ground. She’s injured. She cries, her voice rising higher and higher as she’s left behind.

I run, shoving my way through the crowd, a rogue already spotting her and smiling a sickening grin as he tears off and makes his way directly for her.

Bastard.

I get there and pick her up, cradling her to my chest and swiftly turn, running like my life depends on it. I shove her into another woman’s arms and then turn, the rogue barreling towards us.

“Get her inside,” I scream and then shift, my body moving to cut them off from reaching the front of the pack house.

  • 15 Eyou.

He sneers at me.

1 glare. So far, there’s no sign of MaryAnne Sinclair, but I know she’ll be here. She’s just waiting, biding her time.

The rogue lunges. I attack, my claws slashing, my body moving as fast as I can, refusing to give this pathetic creature any mercy.

One wrong move and he’ll get into the packhouse before everybody is safe in the room. I refuse to let that happen.

I slash his throat and watch detached as his body flops to the ground.

A quick glance shows the warriors and Damien desperately fighting against the onslaught of rogues. It felt like there were hundreds of them.

I leap into the fray, forcing myself forward, focused on getting to my mate. I kill without remorse, ignoring the small scratches and injuries that leave me bleeding.

I see Damien’s wolf eyeing me as he takes down two rogues and steps backwards, both of our wolves meeting, our backs to each other as we protect without communicating.

Each attack is precise, perfectly coordinated.
