Rejected, Abused, I Fall for the Forbidden Alpha (by Riley Scott) novel Chapter 260

Chapter 260

Marissa POV

The women came from nowhere, and MaryAnne whirled around, the knife still firmly at my throat, her eyes blazing as she stared at the group with pure rage on her face.

“Who the fuck are you!” she spat out.

The leader, a beautiful young woman with long flowing white hair, arched a brow as the group stopped just a few feet away from us.

“Judgement,” she said softly, “karma. a group of witches who eradicate those who have meddled with the dark and forbidden arts. MaryAnne Sinclair, you are charged with the use of black magic, forbidden exchanges, and allying yourself with a coven of dark witches.”

“Who are you to tell me what to do!” MaryAnne sneered, “You bunch of delusional freaks!”

“I advise you to let that poor girl go,” the leader spoke calmly, “and perhaps we might be merciful on you. We can restore your soul, but it comes at a price. You would have to spend the rest of your life atoning for your sins. It’s a fair trade, an offer that I do not offer lightly.”

“Go to hell!” MaryAnne yelled, refusing to be cowed or intimidated.

She should have known better.

The woman shook her head, a look of deep regret in her eyes.

“That was an unwise decision. I am afraid you cannot be allowed to continue recklessly endangering others for your own selfish gains. You are a liability, a threat of the highest order, and a force that cannot simply be allowed to roam free,” she continued nonchalantly as though she was simply discussing the weather.

“Young man, I would advise you not to do anything rash lest you cause your mate’s death,” she turned her head to regard Damien solemnly, and he halted in his tracks, a look of frustration on his face.

She waved her hand, and the knife came flying out of MaryAnne’s hand. I took the opportunity and shoved her hard to the ground, quickly running into Damien’s waiting arms.

We turned to look at the scene in front of us.

I had never heard of these women before, let alone that they existed, but I suspected it was for good reason.

MaryAnne awkwardly got to her feet, a sneer on her face.

Even now, she showed no fear. I guess not having a soul will do that to you.

The leader motioned to the other women, and they began to form a wide circle around MaryAnne, who spun wildly around, looking for an opening.

There wasn’t one.

The women moved as one, as though they had done this hundreds of times before, and they probably had. Every movement was precise, simultaneous, and practiced.

“I’m not afraid of you,” MaryAnne screamed, lunging towards one of the women.

She bounced off some sort of hidden barrier, landing on her back and staring upwards in shock, breathless for one

moment.

“You had the chance to go down a different path, to finally find happiness, but you chose revenge instead and offered up what made you human.” The leader’s voice was soft but condemning at the same time.

MaryAnne leaped up and lunged again, but bounced back once more.

It only pissed her off more.

“What magic is this?” she hissed, her eyes turning wild.

“White magic. The purest kind. Designed for healing and cleansing. We protect what is good in this world,” the leader said evenly, “and we eradicate what is dark and evil.”

“You have no right,” MaryAnne howled, “you bunch of lunatics!”

I shivered, and Damien gripped me harder, both of us unable to tear our eyes away. Hades was dumbstruck, watching with an open mouth, as though unable to believe what was happening.

“Do you wish to repent for your misdeeds before we cleanse you?” the leader asked conversationally, as though this was just another day for her.

Maybe it was.

“Fuck you, you bitch,” MaryAnne snarled while the woman merely blinked at her, unfazed at all.

“Amena, she refuses to acknowledge her mistakes. Being compassionate is just a waste of time,” a beautiful black -haired woman spoke up.

“I always have hope that one day, somebody might accept their wrongdoings and allow us to save their soul,” the woman I now know to be Amena said with deep regret.

They moved closer, shoulder to shoulder, and I saw something flicker in MaryAnne’s eyes. A cold calculating look which quickly faded.
