Chapter 261
Her eyes darkened. The mask slipped.
“You brat. I swear, the moment I free myself from this circle, you’re the first one I’m coming for.”
“Enough,” Amena interrupted, motioning to the women, “it’s time to get this over with. MaryAnne Sinclair, today, you discover the consequences of your actions. May you find peace in the next life, should the moon goddess be merciful enough to grant you one.”
The women slowly raised their arms in sync.
It was eerie. The wind picked up. The air grew thick. Slowly, the wind grew stronger and stronger, and a grey tornado formed, slowly heading directly towards the circle and a panicked-looking MaryAnne.
“Wow,” breathed Damien, a look of awe on his face.
“Fuck,” muttered Hades, his own expression mirroring his shock.
I said nothing, I merely watched, feeling numb.
The tornado grew larger.
“Stop,” MaryAnne sounded hysterical, “stop, please. I’ll repent. I’ll atone,” she pleaded.
“Lies,” Amena said bluntly. “It is too late now.”
MaryAnne backed away as far as she could in the forcefield, or whatever she was trapped in, her hands held out in
surrender.
She knew it was too late now.
There was no escaping this.
The tornado swept past the women and slowly enveloped MaryAnne. She disappeared from view.
I could hear the sounds of her screams.
Dirt tore up, grass went flying. The tornado swirled around and around, resting in the same spot, hiding MaryAnne from our eyes.
The screams grew louder.
The women continued to hold their arms up.
The tornado turned black and red.
It grew hard to breathe, and yet none of us moved back.
It was like we were frozen in place.
→ heard the sounds of cracking and saw the earth splitting beneath the tornado, saw it tunneling down, as though
it was creating a hole large enough to swallow her whole.
The screams fell silent.
The women slowly lowered their arms.
The tornado grew calm and then faded like smoke in the air.

MaryAnne was gone. The dirt, the hole was covered, looking exactly like it was before,
As though none of this had happened.
I blinked, my body swaying as Damien held me up.
The women shifted. Amena slowly turned and then stalked towards us.
Damien moved to protect me, thrusting me behind him while Hades tensed.
She held her hands up and paused in front of us.
“I mean no harm,” she said softly, “I merely wish to assure you that the woman you knew as MaryAnne Sincla will no longer pose a threat to anyone.”
“Where did she go?” My voice shook slightly.
She tilted her head and then gave a long-suffering sigh.
“To a hell of her own making. The moon goddess,” she chose her words carefully, “is not exactly forgiving when it comes to those who choose a darker path and ignore the good fortune and choices given to them. Hell was the only thing that would willingly accept her with no soul.”
“So she’s dead?” Damien asked, still looking bewildered.
“She’s merely a vessel now with a consciousness that will endure every torment inflicted on her.”
I shuddered. I didn’t want any further explanations.
Her eyes slowly turned to me, and I stiffened, but there was no condemnation in her gaze.
“Marissa Sinclair,” she said softly, “the path you have chosen, the mistakes you have atoned for have already changed the future you were facing. Your life will only continue to be greeted with luck and good fortune so long as you don’t go back to your old ways.”
I nodded tightly, not trusting my voice.
“You are destined to do good in this world. Your light will shine brightly, and the people you care about most will be greatly influenced by your deeds. I wish the two of you, no, sorry, the four of you,” she included Hades in her statement while I frowned, wondering who the fourth was, “nothing but happiness,” she beamed.
“Thank you,” Damien found his voice but it sounded strangled.
She gave another smile.
“I trust that nothing about tonight will ever reach another’s ears,” she said solemnly.
“As far as we’re concerned, MaryAnne died during the battle,” Hades said gravely, and the woman’s eyes sparkled as she nodded at him.
