Chapter 287
“Alright, leave for now. When we have something, we’ll let you know, and Aaron,” Damien held my gaze,” don’t do something stupid or rash. Don’t ask questions and tip off the person responsible. We have to be discreet, which means you do the same.”
I nodded moodily.
I wasn’t stupid, but Damien knew I could be reckless when the situation called for it.
He could read me like an open book.
It was infuriating sometimes.
I stormed to the door, my fury clearly visible.
“For the record, Aaron,” Marissa spoke gently, and I turned to look over my shoulder, “I really like Asher, she’s sweet, and I think she’s perfect for you. Don’t let her go,” she advised.
“I won’t.”
I walked out into the hallway and headed towards the stairs, only to bump into somebody and almost send them flying.
I instantly reached out my hand to steady them, and only then did I see who it was.
I stepped back as if I had been burned.
“Aaron,” Candice’s voice was soft and apologetic, “I wanted to find you and apologize for how I acted the
other day. It was wrong of me. I never meant to insult mate like that. My behavior was out of line. It
won’t happen again,” she said meekly.
“I’m not the one you should apologize to,” I said, although my tone was even now.
She nodded hastily.
“Of course. The next time I see Asher, I’ll make a point to apologize.”
“She’ll appreciate that,” I said, relaxing slightly.
Candice must have just had an off day. She’d never acted that way before, so it was easy to forgive. Sure, she tried to hook up with me, but now I was with Asher, she had hopefully gotten the memo that I wasn’t interested any longer,
“Well, I should get back to work. I won’t delay you any longer,” she chirped and scurried off in a hurry.
I just shook my head and made for the stairs, my focus on Asher.
