Chapter 55
I feel Raven’s body rocking on me, her body bouncing up and down as I move. I can smell her scent even with all the blood on her clothes and body. Her hair is flowing loosely down her back and billowing in the wind. I can hear her heart racing wildly in her chest, hear her breathing go shallow. It’s torture I can feel her ass grinding against me and her breasts pushing against my neck. Despite myself, I become aroused, my running getting faster and faster in an effort to distract myself. I’m almost crying with relief when we enter the Blood Moon’s Territory and reach the front of the packhouse. As Raven slowly climbs off me, I feel my body tense. Fuck. I was going to need a cold shower and immediately. What in the fuck was wrong with me? Even covered in blood I was still finding Raven desirable. Gods she was like an addiction that I couldn’t shake. This was going to make staying away and focussing on Marissa a hell of a lot harder. I almost feel pained at the very thought of it.
Omegas come running out. Some take Raven by the hand as she blinks at them, racing her upstairs to bathe and get rid of the blood. Jackson shifts and then picks Aeress up with his arms, cradling her to his chest and determinedly walking into the house, refusing to let go of her. I had seen the panic in his eyes when he’d seen Aeress fighting, and I knew he was going to be overprotective of her for the next few days. I tried really hard not to think about what that meant. No doubt sleeping in the same bed without pause. What I wouldn’t give to be able to do that with Raven, I thought, and then shook my head, reminding myself that was impossible. I was engaged. I couldn’t keep thinking like this. I couldn’t let myself be swayed by Raven, no matter how much my body or my mind might be tempted to.
Say’s who, Lucifer whispered.
I shift, stretching my muscles and head into the house and directly to my room. I wash the blood off, my mind darting back to Raven. She’d scared me. When I had gone back to the limousines and found her gone, I hadn’t been able to get the worry out of my mind. I’d plunged into the forest, sniffing desperately and tracking down her scent. I’d heard the sounds of fighting, of screaming coming from the distance. and I had bolted, frightened I would be too late. When I came upon her cutting off the hunter’s dick and slashing his throat with a ruthlessness that belied her innocent look, I had been overcome with relief rather than revulsion. I had never seen anybody so feisty, so strong, and filled with a determination to survive. She was unlike any woman I had ever met before. She was an enigma.
